During the over-filled-nose-bag season I've had to move my laptop from the dining table to a small corner of the room, where the painting (from which this detail comes) lives in front of me.
The painting is of the style of shoes that I've worn since the 60's. I have seen no reason to change my choice of style, or even of colour, for the past 60 years.
I was looking at the picture this morning, and could remember what fun I had painting the laces.
It's often the little things that make me smile, and this morning it was those laces.
I smiled at your little painting too. As a baby, my son's flat feet made him quite particular about his shoes. Forget baby shoes. He loved boots much like yours above, suede with rubber soles. Thank you for that little memory.
ReplyDeleteI've always loved this type of shoe. I've recently bought a new pair which I'm 'running-in' at the moment.
DeleteSometimes the beauty is really in the small details. It would be Interesting to see the whole picture.
ReplyDeleteThe laces are the most interesting bit; believe me!
DeleteA desert boot man. Stylish but not snobbish
ReplyDeleteI'd agree with that.
DeleteThey look like desert boots to me, or as my father used to call them, brothel creepers.
ReplyDelete'Desert Boots' they are, although I think the name has almost disappeared.
DeleteIf the style suits, stick with it!..Now how about a new drawing of the new boots?!
ReplyDeleteIt may happen.
DeleteHaven't seen shoes like that for years.
ReplyDeleteMy most recent pair, I bought here.
DeleteI’ve always loved desert boots .... they never date do they ? Great drawing. XXXX
ReplyDeleteThey've never changed, and nor have I.
DeleteBrothel creepers! I can actually remember buying a pair of those in Brighton when I was a student.
ReplyDeleteThe one's in the picture were bought in Brighton. Coincidence?
DeleteDesert boots. I didn't know it was still possible to buy them although I suppose it is a classic shoe design which is immortal even if the name has died out.
ReplyDeleteI think they're all made in Spain these days.
DeleteI've got a pair of black desert boots. Still sold by Hush Puppies in the US. Think Clark's still sells them, too. Unpretentious and comfy. What's not to like?
ReplyDeleteQuite right. I'm sure Boris has a few pairs.
DeleteAnd there was me thinking that you were a winklepicker kind of bloke.
ReplyDeleteNo, my only other preference was for Chelsea Boots, with the elastic sides. But my present shoes are far more comfortable.
DeleteI used to have some of those. Very comfortable.
ReplyDeleteThey are; they've never let me down.
DeleteThey are still worn here in the west !
ReplyDeletethe drawing is wonderful.
You obviously live amongst sensible people!
