She's back.
I do like it when Lady Magnon goes shopping in London; not because she's absent, but because she always brings me back something special.
And what could be more special than a fabulous Melton Mowbray Pork Pie from The Queen's own grocer in Piccadilly.
I shall be in Heaven for the next few days!
Oh My Goodness !
ReplyDeleteThat looks so wonderful I would love to taste one.
parsnip
I shall broach it at lunchtime; can't wait!
DeleteThat looks delicious! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI'm certain it will be. If a Fortnum's pie isn't the best, I shall be amazed.
DeleteLucky you. I'm sure it will be pure heaven.
ReplyDeleteIt looks wonderful; I'm sure it'll taste as good.
Delete"The Pies have it. Unlock."
ReplyDeleteToo bad for the Nays. More for moi.
DeleteI do love a pork pie although a Melton Mowbray is not my chosen one. Enjoy yours.
ReplyDeleteI don't really mind where they come from, as long as they stick to tradition. Some of the best Champagne comes from Sussex!
DeleteThere are regional variations and the Melton Mowbray pie is much drier than many.
DeleteUp north lots of folk swear by Holland's Pies.
DeleteWhen I was in the UK, I'd buy Waitrose Best, or Pork Farms; which were excellent.
DeleteI like Marks and Spencers ones.
DeleteYes, a truly English institution.
ReplyDeleteStrange, the French, despite their excellent culinary reputation, don't seem to have masterd the art of pie-making?
The French equivalent 'paté en croute' doesn't come anywhere near a decent English Pork Pie, yet they pride themselves on their charcuterie!
DeleteParisian cuisine and the new Napoleon - sauce on everything.
DeleteFor a Fortnum's pie I would have expected crenellations around the top.
ReplyDeleteThey're discreetly hidden away; inside!
DeleteYum ! Did you get a Fray Bentos pie and some pork scratching as well ? XXXX
ReplyDeleteNo. Luckily I have a good supply here of F B Pies; the Pork Scratchings have been banned.
DeleteWonder if HRH enjoys Fray Bentos pies as well Cro?
ReplyDeleteLX
Great minds Jacqueline and at the very same time, I couldn’t blooming well believe my eyes when my comment popped up, yours having beaten mine by a nano second!
DeleteLX
Great minds and all that 😂 !!! XXXX
DeleteI believe she and Pip enjoy one together every weekend. Quite right too.
DeleteFortnum and Mason is our favourite shop to visit when in London. I worked just around the corner in St. James's Street in the 70s. We always had their Black Forest Gateaux for office birthdays.
ReplyDeleteWhen I left school we started a monthly 'Luncheon Club' there. We soon realised that it was very expensive, and lunchtimes were almost impossible. We moved to Chelsea.
DeleteWhen I was growing up in Leicester we always had a pork pie for breakfast on Christmas Day. I continued the tradition after I left the county. Must be eaten with Branston pickle though!
ReplyDeleteI've got some Branston. I'll make sure it'll be on the table.
DeleteNothing beat a good pork pie, I'm the only one who eats them in my family, so I don't get them often. Enjoy every mouth full, I will have to purchase one now.
ReplyDeleteI do wish they would import them into France; they don't know what they're missing.
DeleteI could eat one with gusto just now. Well (and I can almost hear you howling) instead of gusto I'd have Branston Original Pickle.
ReplyDeleteWe've just eaten half of it.... delicious.
DeleteI've just realised that you do eat Branston pickle. Why didn't I pick that up earlier?
DeleteThey sell it here now in rather unpleasant 'squeezy' plastic bottles. At least it tastes the same as in glass.
DeleteMarmite is now sold in a plastic squeezy bottle to. I'm too traditional. My Marmite comes in glass bottles full stop.
Deletetoo. Sorry.
DeleteWhen my wife goes back to the UK, I always ask her to buy 'Squeezy Marmite'; I can't stand finding butter in my Marmite, and this solves my problem!
DeleteI hope it tasted as good as it looked.
ReplyDeleteWonderful; both the pastry and the filling.
DeleteI must say it does look moreish.
ReplyDeleteYou don't know how lucky you are in Britain!!!
DeleteThat looks delicious. Many years ago I worked with a man who brought home made pork pies to work for lunch. He gave me the recipe and I made quite a few. They were delicious. (Unfortunately, I don't know how hot water pastry would go with gf flour.
ReplyDeleteI did make a couple myself, but could never master the jelly. I should try again.
