Prezzie.

She's back.

I do like it when Lady Magnon goes shopping in London; not because she's absent, but because she always brings me back something special.

And what could be more special than a fabulous Melton Mowbray Pork Pie from The Queen's own grocer in Piccadilly.

I shall be in Heaven for the next few days!

    1. I'm certain it will be. If a Fortnum's pie isn't the best, I shall be amazed.

    1. I don't really mind where they come from, as long as they stick to tradition. Some of the best Champagne comes from Sussex!

    2. There are regional variations and the Melton Mowbray pie is much drier than many.

    3. Up north lots of folk swear by Holland's Pies.

    4. When I was in the UK, I'd buy Waitrose Best, or Pork Farms; which were excellent.

  6. Yes, a truly English institution.

Strange, the French, despite their excellent culinary reputation, don't seem to have masterd the art of pie-making?

    1. The French equivalent 'paté en croute' doesn't come anywhere near a decent English Pork Pie, yet they pride themselves on their charcuterie!

  7. For a Fortnum's pie I would have expected crenellations around the top.

    1. No. Luckily I have a good supply here of F B Pies; the Pork Scratchings have been banned.

  10. Fortnum and Mason is our favourite shop to visit when in London. I worked just around the corner in St. James's Street in the 70s. We always had their Black Forest Gateaux for office birthdays.

    1. When I left school we started a monthly 'Luncheon Club' there. We soon realised that it was very expensive, and lunchtimes were almost impossible. We moved to Chelsea.

  11. When I was growing up in Leicester we always had a pork pie for breakfast on Christmas Day. I continued the tradition after I left the county. Must be eaten with Branston pickle though!

  12. Nothing beat a good pork pie, I'm the only one who eats them in my family, so I don't get them often. Enjoy every mouth full, I will have to purchase one now.

    1. I do wish they would import them into France; they don't know what they're missing.

  13. I could eat one with gusto just now. Well (and I can almost hear you howling) instead of gusto I'd have Branston Original Pickle.

    3. They sell it here now in rather unpleasant 'squeezy' plastic bottles. At least it tastes the same as in glass.

    4. Marmite is now sold in a plastic squeezy bottle to. I'm too traditional. My Marmite comes in glass bottles full stop.

    5. When my wife goes back to the UK, I always ask her to buy 'Squeezy Marmite'; I can't stand finding butter in my Marmite, and this solves my problem!

  16. That looks delicious. Many years ago I worked with a man who brought home made pork pies to work for lunch. He gave me the recipe and I made quite a few. They were delicious. (Unfortunately, I don't know how hot water pastry would go with gf flour.
