Autumn

We've been back from France for just two months. When we returned the trees were still covered in fresh green leaves, today they are nearly bare.

I do like this time of year, more to look at than to walk in; although our weather is still very mild with above 10 C temperatures, and some sunshine almost every day.

The 'Peace Garden', where I go twice a day, and Billy goes four times a day, is really beautiful in Autumn. I think old graveyards are at their best with fallen leaves and bare trees. There should be an aura of sadness in old graveyards, and Autumn gives us that.

I usually go for our first walk of the day at around 7.30 am, and often the garden is empty. It is so peaceful, with just us, a few Pigeons, and some Squirrels for company. Perfect.

It does look peaceful there. A good place for a contemplative walk.

I can't quite make out if that is Billy. If so, it is good that he can walk off lead.

It was like that again this morning. Very quiet.

Yes, that is him. The garden is completely enclosed so all the dogs run around together. They're very well behaved.

I think you are right about misty autumn mornings when leaves are strewn around - they do add a certain aura of sadness - as if life has departed.

I'm not at all a gloomy person, but I do enjoy autumnal graveyards.

I love walking through piles of leaves ..... I'm obviously still a child at heart ! We have a beautiful cemetery just a few hundred yards from our house and it's lovely to walk through. I actually don't find it at all depressing which is rather strange. There are many Italians living here ... they came here after the war as this area is known for nurseries. You always know an Italian grave by the thousands of flowers in bright colours. XXXX

I remember those churchyards in England. There were a couple I loved to visit and enjoy the peace. A long time ago.

I love walking through fallen leaves, shusssing them out of the way with my feet as I go. (schussing is not a word, it is a feeling.)

I find them very atmospheric - especially the Victorian ones. Dogs aren't usually allowed in graveyards - or is that just the church ones?

We have a small army of volunteers who do the gardening every Wednesday. They do a great job.

Old churchyards are lovely. Modern ones aren't.

I shall make sure that 'schussing' is added to next year's Oxford Dictionary.

Dogs are very welcome in both the actual Churchyard, and the Rest Garden. But picking-up dog-poo is essential. There is another small park that is for children where dogs are banned. All three areas are very close to each other.

Gives your mind time to wander as the dog.

I also like the quiet of an early morning walk. You have several lovely places to walk.

I quite expect that Billy contemplates as he walks/runs around.

Apart from the walk to and from home, there are just the two different adjacent parks where we walk ever day. The one above, and the churchyard itself. Both are beautiful, and dog-friendly.

It looks like a perfect autumn day - just like the ones I remember. It couldn't be more of a contrast to my dog walk today. It's 27ÂșC, the sun is shining and the sea is as calm as a millpond.
