Fashion?

I have always thought (maybe mistakenly) that fashion should enhance the look of either the women or men who wear stylish clothes. Traditionally women are supposed to look the shape of an hour-glass, and men the shape of a carrot or parsnip. The clothes they wear should normally enhance that.

But these days, all that seems to have been waylaid. In these days of gender fluidity, one is more likely to see the promotion of men's clothes for women, and women's clothes for men.

Figure hugging, sexual stereotyping, and flattery is despised by many of the new wave of Woke trans designers. They like to see androgenous models, and his-n-hers styles. Good old fashioned male/female delimitation is frowned-upon.

I have to say that if I invited a young lady out for the evening, and she turned-up looking like the above; I'd head for home. No thanks!

What are these people thinking???

  1. just a case of "the Kings new clothes." This was obviously made for a 6' 8" man.She will break her neck tripping over those trousers and has she still got the coathanger in that jacket. ? Ridiculous. Wonder what shoes she is wearing ?

    1. What makes you think she's wearing shoes? She's probably wearing Army Boots.

  2. When was the last time you saw a woman wearing a skirt? Everyone seems to wear jeans/trousers these days, they all look the same. Me too until recently, but I'm now staging a revolt...!

    1. The only girls I know-of, around here, who wear skirts are local schoolgirls, and they wear them as belts, so that you can see their 'undies' (yes, really). Not a good look, and very cold at this time of year.

  3. Cut her some slack, Cro. She's probably trying a bit of sustainable fashion by wearing her dad's suit.

    1. Yes, I hadn't thought of that. Sensible recycling, she but should have chosen a much smaller donor.

  4. What happens in fashion houses and at fashion shows is totally disconnected from what ordinary, everyday people wear. Fashion trendsetting is just a curious sideshow.

  5. Your blog posts all disappeared this morning.
I searched and found this. Oh well. Too out of this world for me. Does the designer really think this outfit is a good advertisement. And she's on the front cover. A waste of money buying that magazine if that's what's inside

    1. The Sunday Times is the only newspaper we buy; and not for the fashion pages. If the designer aimed to make us all laugh; she succeeded!

  6. I have actually always loved the androgynous look but not to the degree of the one in that last photograph. You can get away with it if there is something feminine alongside it like long hair, silver jewellery etc. The fashion in fashion shows is always over the top but pares down as it filters down to the High Street. 1. Yes. It's designed to shock, and, as you say, it does filter down in a diluted manner.

  7. Back in the 1960's, one of my parent's neighbors owned a store she called 'Lady's Apparel.' I remember her saying that women's clothing was just 'one ugly fad after another.' She made a fortune on it though! Not much has changed....

    1. Fashion does seem to be going through a particularly bad phase at the moment. I get the feeling that the designers are 'lost' in a wave of Wokery and Political Correctness. Maybe they should simply concentrate on creating beautiful clothes again.

  8. Perhaps the designer was desperatly trying to be different - and failing miserably?
I frequently watch "Poirot" because I love the Art Deco ambience and am alway struck by how elegant, feminine and beautifully dressed the women are in the series. A recent episode featured a fashion show, with some beautiful svelte evening gowns - totally at odds with some of the ridiculous dresses worn at film premieres these days. Old films and newsreels from the 30's era show women always wearing hats and dresses, in fact both men and women wore hats - clothing was much more formal back then.

    1. I feel so sorry for those 'celebs' who turn-up at film premieres or award ceremonies. They are paid to wear the most ridiculous outfits, and often look really embarrassed. I agree about the Art Deco period. Pure elegance.

  9. Dear World,
Some of you are quite nuts.
    Yours in confusion .

  10. i find the photo in your post unattractive. Why do some people want to make themselves unattractive. Why does it even sell? Are people just trying to make a statement? I do not know.

    1. I'm not sure if it sells, it's more to make a statement; and shock.
