A Bargain.

I usually do my main shopping trip for the week on Saturdays. Last Saturday I went with this coupon (below) anticipating a reduction of £13.50 from my bill. However, instead of spending just over £90 to qualify, I ended-up spending just £89. You can imagine how infuriated I was with myself. I should have totted-up as I went. I haven't been able to forget it since then.

So, not to be outdone, I returned yesterday (Tuesday) to make sure I did get my reduction before it expired. It was the final day and if I didn't go I would lose it.

I ended-up buying far more than I'd intended just to make sure I spent over the £90. In fact I spent about £130.

I bought lots of wine, several bottles of Champagne, all sorts of meats, a frozen Leg of Lamb, and a variety of things that I would never normally buy. In fact I treated ourselves to some very nice things that will keep us going for at least two weeks.

Having felt a bit cheated since Saturday, I am now happy again and feel that I have shopped wisely. £13.50 is not to be sniffed at. Not by me anyway!

I shall NOT be going shopping this Saturday. We are overloaded!

I always tot up as I go and round-up too, to the nearest dollar, since I only ever take a certain amount with me and don't want to overspend. I know the cost of most things I buy so I take that amount plus $5 extra just in case something has increased in price.

I'm totally the opposite, and never look at how much things cost. Occasionally I look at my receipt, but that's it.

That's a decent reduction.

That's a lot of shopping but of course you couldn't lose that discount. Sounds as though you're well stocked up, champagne and lamb. Will it all be gone by Christmas or are you saving it

If I get stuck like that I pick up a packet of sweets from the checkout and ask the operator to add it on. It always works!!!

I can't see it lasting until Christmas. Until the weekend maybe, but no further.

I hadn't really noticed. I just put my card into the machine, then realised I hadn't given the voucher. It was then when I saw the total. A catalogue of mistakes, I was furious with myself.

Usually with these offers Spend more than £40 and get £x off, I find I have spent more like £80!

There's cunning psychology behind those tokens. Most shoppers overspend in order to make sure that they have hit the target.

I get those offers too and always tot it up as I go. I too would have grabbed another item to make up the shortfall. I shop in Tesco and Sainsbury but switch to Sainsbury to make the most of those offers. As you say it is quite a saving but of course it probably makes us spend more to qualify.

Hopefully we all win.

You have to make sure you only buy 'essentials', such as Champagne, huge joints of Beef, Foie gras, etc.

I didn't really look but I think I have another one for next week. I shall have to search in my shopping basket.

Not to be sniffed at!

I used to get lots of Waitrose/John Lewis vouchers. Unfortunately the Waitrose vouchers cannot be used for wine IN SCOTLAND because of minimum pricing. Bummer.

Enjoy the good stuff.

Mine couldn't be used for spirits. I don't really drink spirits anyway!

We will; there's plenty of it.

That's a nice reduction and you are all set for a good long time. The coupon brought you shopping 2X. You'll be on the preferred shopper list!

I find extreme caution is needed shopping on line at Tesco. There is a £5 "basket charge" for orders to be delivered under £50, so I diligently make sure that I go over the £50 to avoid that. But then I take advantage of "Club Card Price" offers and then find when my order has been delivered that this has brought my purchases down to £49 somethingso the basket charge has been added. All a big con I think.

You did very well to finally get your discount - hope you have enough room to store it all!
As far as I know, none of the supermarkets here give discounts or vouchers, and only one has a loyalty card. Must admit to not keeping a note of what I've spent.

Usually I get a new coupon every time I shop. They know me well.

I've never bought online. I've also never ordered a takeaway online. It may happen, but not too soon I hope.

As well as my discount I did get a small amount added to my Loyalty Card. I keep that for my Christmas Turkey.

You never look at how much things cost? NEVER? I can't imagine being able to live like that.
