“Walk Between the Raindrops”

This superb Donald Fagan (ex Steely Dan) classic is by a so-called 'Tribute Band'.

I'm afraid I don't know who the band are, but they do a really great job. The guitarist in the hat (Mark Baldwin) who seems to be permanently searching for something, had lost his music; they apparently added his 'strumming' post-production.

If you know the song and wish to join in, I've added the lyrics below! If you don't know the song, play it a few times; you'll be hooked.

A shadow crossed the blue Miami skyAs we hit the causeway by the big hotelsWe fought, now I can't remember whyAfter all the words were said and tears were goneWe vowed we'd never say goodbyeWhen we kissed, we could hear the sound of thunderAs we watched the regulars rush the big hotelsWe kissed again as the showers swept the Florida shoreYou opened your umbrellaBut we walked between the raindrops back to your doorWe walked between the raindrops back to your doorOh, Miami
In my dreams, I can hear the sound of thunderI can see the causeway by the big hotelsThat happy day, we'll find each other on that Florida shoreYou'll open your umbrellaAnd we'll walk between the raindrops back to your doorWe'll walk between the raindropsBetween the raindropsWalk between the raindrops back to your door

  1. It's always interesting to actually read the lyrics of a song. I usually only catch a snatch of them when listening to music.
    These are very descriptive .

    1. I don't know why, but I love the words 'by the big hotels'. They make me smile. I must be odd!

  2. What an excellent version that is. Of course it's from Fagen's album 'The Nightfly.' A great piece of work with such great lyrics. It's quite jazzy as well. I must have all his Steely Dan recordings. The harmony's with a twist of jazz was what originally grabbed me.
Steely Dan's album 'Gaucho' (1980) is my most played album of all time....more plays than Mahler, Verdi, Chopin and The Beach Boys.

    1. I like this track more than any of the others. And, yes, what a good version. As for liking 'Gaucho' more than The Beach Boys; that's really saying something!

    2. Whoops! Spelt Harmonies as Harmony's.

  3. Oh I wish our raindrops were spaced far enough apart that I could walk between them.

  4. I began to sing along but then the neighbours banged on the wall, shouting, "SHADDAP!"

    1. I like 'quality'. This song represents that in so many ways. I never tire of listening to it.

  6. It's nice enough, good 'background' music that doesn't distract from whatever else I'm doing.

    1. Listen a couple more times. It's a subtle tune that needs several outings.
