Actually he was sitting on Billy's Tennis ball launcher on our Bay tree.
We're a little too far north for that constant buzz of Cicadas; but we do have a few in the height of Summer. Otherwise we have plenty of Crickets, Grasshoppers of all sizes, Praying Mantis, and Stick insects.
The large Crickets are usually all-over green, but this one has an amazing coat of many colours. I think it may be a female which are bigger than the males.
What a lovely creature it is. Very friendly.

I had just now given my hair a trim, and was showing Lady M the wonderful result, when I found a HUGE Spider on my neck. Goodness knows where it came from; the ceiling I suppose. It's obviously a time for insects.
It's very attractive indeed. I don't see them here but in New Zealand I was constantly aware at certain times of the years of their zzzzing presence.

I love them and have seen both crickets and Praying mantis is Spain. Really hot day here yesterday (30) - thunderstorm later!
What a beautiful creature.
I found a small golden beetle in my bed the other morning when I pulled back the covers to get up. I think the poor thing was injured as I must have rolled on him during the night.
I really like seeing such insects. Not too many get up this high, aside from Lady Bugs.
He really has got splendid markings.

but is cousin to the famous Wart-Biter

We have just had some thunder and a few spots of rain. Sadly nowhere near enough to even dampen the ground. Still, it was an unexpected pleasure.

Hello Cro, my cats have started bringing these critters into my house. I am forever picking them off the curtains and taking them into the garden again. We used to have stick insects in Kenya, East Africa. And leaf insects. I haven't seen any in South Africa since my childhood. Have a great weekend. Jo
I didn't know there were several types. Ours here have bodies about 4 ins long, and long legs. They are usually brown.

The Mantis and Stick Insects usually turn up a bit later; end August/early September. I love to see them around. Lovely creatures.
I so enjoy the sound of crickets on a summer evening. It makes it feel like all is right in the world.

He's a great speciman. We have a few stick insects this year , not nearly as many as the last few years.
Cicadas are singing away here but I've either got used to them or they dont seem as loud as usual.
Crickets and grasshoppers (perhaps grasshoppers especially) close up, seem like machines.
They don't seem to be singing very much at the moment; I don't know why. Maybe they'll start this month.
He was given it by a friend. You should buy one, they are great for exercising our dogs. Billy wants to chase after tennis balls all day long.
Our insect life has yet to flourish. No wasps, very few mosquitos, no cicadas. I wonder what's happened to them all?
They certainly seem 'built for purpose'. Sculptors who work in metal like them, they are very structural.
Hardly any mosquitoes or wasps here either. We had no flies crawling over our Easter roast and very few now. I hope this doesn't mean they'll be back in swarms next year
