Pool opening.

Tomorrow it will be June; so, time we opened the pool.

Meanwhile, there was a Boot Sale at our neighbouring village yesterday morning, and I just couldn't resist buying the above.

My collection of poolside kitsch grows greater and greater.

All went according to plan. The pump didn't start when I first turned on, but a sharp kick to the motor did the trick.

Guess who was the first to have a swim (accidentally)? Of course, it was Billy; well at least we now know he can swim!

Summer (chez Cro) has officially begun. Water temperature 17 C. No thanks!

    1. Temperatures up to 31 C this weekend, so the pool should warm-up a bit. I usually don't swim below 22 C Min.

    2. That sounds good - we are set to plummet to 12 degrees.

  2. It looks warm and summerish with a blue sky and blue water but at 17 degrees, not yet. Poor Billy. He must have gotten such a shock.

    1. I didn't actually see him fall in. Lady M said he was trying to drink the water, but ended-up doing doggy paddle.

  4. In Austria the traditional opening of swimming pools takes place on 1st May or the first weekend after it. Hail, rain or shine. It often happens that pools are not used much in May. And it also often happens that the last two weeks in April are warmer and drier than the first two weeks in May. I used to swimming in the Danube but I won't be doing it anymore as I've read a report that the river water samples in Vienna contained 4 x the maximum recommended level of antibiotics! The highest of 751 rivers in Europe.

    1. I don't think there's much point in our opening-up before 1st June. As you say, the weather in April can be really good (it was this year), but it isn't pukka swimming weather until now.

  5. Supposed to be 31 C this weekend. Do you have 'dog steps' for a gentle pool entry and exit?

    1. Yes, he got out quite easily. His claws are still quite rounded too!

    1. As soon as he dried off he was very fluffy and soft. I think it did him good; we never bath our Dogs. We let them wash themselves.

  7. 31c here today and tomorrow. The local swimming pool opens tomorrow right next to my house, too many people for me. I never go.

    1. I think we're all going to have hot weather over the weekend. I need it for essential mowing.

  8. We are going to have a good weekend. I am looking forward to hot weather and the schools going back and life returning to normal. Your pool looks inviting in France but not for here methinks. I am used to a life without pools, as are most of us in the UK.

    1. Almost everyone has a pool here. It's not a sign of affluence etc, just another facility.

    2. No, I realise that. They just don't go with the British way of life/weather.

    1. Fingers crossed. A nice hot weekend ahead, but then I fear it will return to coolish.

  12. Gosh, that came around quickly! I think I started reading your pages at around the same milestone last year. 17 degrees is way too bracing for me as well.

  13. Down to 9c tonight - up to 14c tomorrow. Bit on the chilly side here so any swimming I might do would be in the local heated indoor pool down the road.
Having said that, your pool looks lovely and clean and at 31c would be refreshing to use

    1. I think it may be a while before I brave the icy waters. I'm not as hardy as I used to be. But it does look nicer having it open.

  15. There are a few domestic pools on Lewis but all indoor ones. Givn that the temperatute today peaked at 9℃ we've got a little way to go to outdoor anything this year.

    1. It was hot here yesterday, and will become even hotter over the weekend. However, I doubt if the pool will warm enough for swimming; we'll see.

  16. You have the most beautiful pool with the fabulous pool house and landscaping.
I opened the pool today also but with a photo from last year.
We will be teaching Winston where the steps are incase he falls in again We need to see if he can swim. Scotties usually sink. He fell in the pool once when Agatha ran into him and he went flying in. We shall see if he sinks.
