    1. It takes a lot of time to get over losing our animals. They were 'family members'.

  2. I also feel like I knew them. It's been two months since I lost mine.

    1. I remember it. They went around the same time. I expect you feel much the same as me.

    3. That's very kind, and of course we worry about your safety too.

  3. Lovely photos of much loved pets. Both Kim and Sophie have to go to the Vets this week. It is always a worry with older animals.

    1. Hope they are both given clean bills of health!

    2. I hope so - Sophie needs a tooth removed and has a problem with her ear and Kim has been off her food and was violently sick yesterday.

    3. Sounds expensive. I hope they both pull through OK.

    1. It was especially hard with poor Bok, as it was totally unexpected.

  5. Beautiful dogs and so much loved.
And Fred too. We all miss hearing about them.
I am going to ask Vaso about hornets. Some years they are bad here and some years not. They ravage her grapes when they're around so I'll tell her your solution

    1. During the grape season I hung them in the vines. I caught huge amounts. They couldn't get enough of them!

    1. I'm just back from a very long early morning walk, almost everywhere I looked reminded me of them.

  7. Oh Cro ...... what beautiful dogs they were..... they must have been with you most of the day, everyday. Did they used to follow you around the garden when you were working like Monty Dons dogs do ? Such wonderful
    companions. XXXX

  8. It is usually JG who makes me cry with stories of dogs, but you have managed it this morning.!! My first dog left us over 5 years ago, aged 16 ish but I still think of him and miss him, in spite of the presence of my lovely schnauzer and yorkie. Is it time yet for another dog? It helps a bit I am sure.

    1. Maybe if one comes along 'naturally', we'll go for it. But for the moment I think we'll just wait a bit.

  9. How I miss my lovely boys, said the castrati to his surgeon. They really are the sweetest of photos of comfortable friends. Perhaps we should take note of the lack of inhibitions to be friendly like dogs do.

    1. Like many good friends, they did start off by fighting; but only in play.

  10. Hello Cro what wonderful dogs and you would not have been without them would you
It is devastating when they go but the memories are sustaining I still think about my boy who was a staffie pit bull cross. I had to plead to adopt him as he was a borderline case. There was not a more loving animal ever he was daft and a big softie all he wanted was to be loved he came to me cigarette burned and abused
    I feel your loss
    Take care

    1. I must say, I would be quite wary of taking on a Staffie/Pit Bull; especially one that had been abused. But well done you. All dogs respond to being well loved, fed, and looked after. It's all they want in life.

    2. I am only small just about five feet small but that dog respected me after we had a few run ins! I knew he didn't want to hurt me but the world he knew had hurt him and that was his reality.we settled down together like best friends but we sometimes had our differences.there's a dog out there for you but you are right to wait. Please be a blessing to another canine companion as soon as you feel ready all the best

  11. I was just telling my husband about you losing your sweet boys yesterday. I'm so sad for you. They really were good dogs and I know your hearts still ache. When the time is right, a new dog will be so grateful for the wonderful home you can provide. Much love to you, Cro.

    1. They were indeed. Bok only came to us because of his love for Monty. He just moved in; so his owner said he might as well stay. We were very lucky.

    1. It did seem particularly so this morning. I went for a long walk, and around almost every corner was something that reminded me of them both.

  14. Give me a dog over man any day, especially the way the world is going.

Are you ready yet to start thinking about another chum? When we move, I am definitely getting a dog, although himself is still holding firm to his promise when we lost our
dog. The pain was so bad I made him promise me not to let us get another dog as I felt then a replacement wouldn’t come close. A few years on and now I feel the time is right.

    1. I once wrote a blog to that effect. I certainly prefer dogs to most humans. I expect we'll remain dog-free for a while; Bok would be so hard to replace.

  16. My brother said he'd never get another dog. But after 12 months or so his wife fetched a new dog home and that as we say was that.
It was absolutely the right dog at the right time. That was 3 or 4 months ago. And now having met the dog in person I see for myself it is so.

    1. You travel around too much to have a dog. Otherwise I expect you'd find one essential. Country life and dogs usually go together.
