Yael, I'm afraid these Chimps were trained to put their arms around people to have their photos taken. The poor chap probably did 100 each day. You can just see that he is on a chain. These practices are very much frowned upon today; and quite rightly so; often the animals were drugged or mistreated if they didn't comply.
Your mum looks really happy ... how people dressed up to go to the zoo and how things have changed. We have a photograph of us at London Zoo riding on an elephant ... that doesn't happen anymore either AND, I can remember going to Wood Green with my Dad where there was a man with a dancing bear !!! XXXX

What a brave woman, i am sure there is an interesting story behind the photo.

As I say, not too PC, but a nice photo.
Great picture. Somewhere in East Africa? I like your mother's hat and smartness.
London Zoo?
Picture on the wall behind I suppose!
Wallpaper, by the look of it.
Hello Jane.
Almost, but no leopard skin bikini.
hat AND gloves...very well dressed indeed. Lovely photo
I can't believe it now but I watched them every week.

Yes, the gloves look rather nice too.
I'm sure I rode on that Elephant too, although no photo to prove it. I really hate dancing Bears, we used to think of them as being quite 'normal'.
Which one is your mother?
Cheeky!
Sorry. Couldn't resist it.
You resemble your mom. I love how dressed up she is.
She was always very elegant; she liked her clothes!
Only the chimp showed up on our initial blog feeder. This is totally irreverent but it made me giggle. Sorry!
Oh dear... at least my mother would have been amused.
That is one AMAZING photograph. A real treasure, Cro.
I hate Zoos , but your mother looks lovely.
Lovely photo of your mother. I love how the hat is elegantly tilted to the side; very pretty
Greetings Maria x
Like maria i love the hat, very olivia de havilland
I love it Cro.
I love everything about it.
Not very PC these days, that's for sure.
She was always quite elegant, but in those days people usually were.
It's the gloves that stand out for me; they look very expensive.
Me too Weave. I shall find a frame for it.
It's a fun photo. I hadn't realized one could have a picture taken with a chimp at the zoo. I think I might have been too scared.
