We are sorry to report the death of our very good family friend Sonja.
I know that most of my 'family' readers will remember her with huge affection. Her remarkable life touched so many.
Sonja was married to the eminent orthopaedic surgeon David LeVay (his book 'Scenes from Surgical Life' is worth reading, if you are interested in medical things).
Sonja was a committed Socialist, Nurse, Magistrate, Samaritan, and Quaker. One of her great successes was to co-found a charity to rebuild an orphanage in Bulgaria. She did so much good for her fellow man, that it's impossible to innumerate all her accolades

She sounds like a lady who achieved a lot of good things in her life, a lady to take inspiration from I think.

Yes, she radiated kindness.
She had a good innings, and, as you say, achieved so much. She puts most of us to shame.
A remarkable human being. She certainly left the world a better place because of her kindness.
And a genuinely nice person too. We'll miss her.
That 'good night' comes too fast for us all and not enough like her coming in her shoes.
I expect they're there somewhere, hidden away. Sonja never sought thanks or praise, being a 'good' person was simply in her nature.

It is always sad when you lose a dear old friend. But you have given her a fine obituary Cro - she would be proud to read it.
Despite the terrible news and tragic events we witness daily we should always remember that the vast majority of people in the world are the right kind. That's what keeps us going.
You're right, her presence was exhilarating.
