Plan B.

This...

Plus this...

Becomes this...

We sometimes learn a lot from blogging. I recently noticed in a picture of a fellow blogger's garden (Jacqueline's 9th June), that she had planted this rather ordinary (but very hardy) succulent plant in an old rusty antique cast-iron urn. It looked just perfect, so I'm brazenly copying her.

I've been wondering what to do with my scraggy old 'succulent' plant for years; it's been sitting in a horrid plastic pot doing nothing since the last millenium; now it may actually thrive.

I think it looks rather nice; certainly a lot better than my lazy stones.

Plan A was OK, Plan B will be better. Time will tell; thanks Jacqueline!

p.s. if anyone knows what it is.....

  1. It looks something like baby's tears ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soleirolia) but I'm not sure that's it. The stems are the wrong colour. Hmmm, back to the drawing board.

    1. Looks like you've got it at once! Soleirolia soleirolii, also known as Baby's tears, Peace in the house, Polly prim, and Mind your own business. What interesting names; I shall have to chose the most appropriate one.

  2. The plant (I don't know the name either) looks better already and will look great in a short while.

    1. I'm hoping it will hang over the sides (which it does with Jacqueline's).

  3. The urn looks so much better with a living plant in it, I'm sure Jacqueline won't mind that you nicked her idea.

  4. That's going to look just perfect Cro ….. it takes a little while for it to start hanging over ….. and, I'm sure that I nicked the idea from somewhere !!!! I do love that hangy down look !! ….. and, another good thing about it ….. it completely looks after itself and looks good year after year.
Over the years, I have found so much inspiration from other bloggers so I'm glad that I too could be of some use !!
Personally, I don't think that yours is Mind Your Own Business ….. that's not a succulent but, it could be from the soleirolia family but I think that yours is a type of sedum like mine. We once had a Mind Your Own Business indoor plant and, I stupidly put it in the garden and it completely took over ….. big mistake ….. HUGE !!

    1. Mine certainly looks exactly like yours, and sounds like it has the same behaviour. And I was so looking forward to calling it 'Polly Prim'.

Absolutely POURING here; the air has turned white, and the thunder is starting again. We had it all last night.

  5. I'm glad someone knows what it is, as I have one too - a cutting from a friend many years ago, but she didn't know what it was called either. Mine is in a big pot and is trailing along the ground, so yours should look very good cascading from that lovely urn.

  6. Very nice. Where did you put the stones? They looked special too… picked up from different places?

  7. That looks very attractive in the gorgeous, old urn. Deb

  8. Anything green and living (even if it is moss) looks better than dull stone. It is a nice improvement, Cro.

  9. I love container gardens and yours is very nice! Especially with flowers and herbs. Very pretty.

    1. I'll get there in the end.... but by then it'll probably be too late.

  10. Round stones make beautiful cairns. I was going to suggest the plant was purslane, the flowering kind. But, if you get a chance to get the edible purslane, it has thick and fleshy leaves that taste lemony and is healthy too. Great in salads.

  11. I have no idea what the plant is Cro, but I am always a great believer in plan B.
