I can't remember when or where I acquired this poorly executed piece of stone carving, but I've had it for a very long time. It sits out in the garden slowly disintegrating.
I imagine it's an 'apprentice piece', as someone has also been practicing their lettering on the base.
The world is awash with such objects; anonymous, mysterious, and secretive.

This is realy interesting. Near my house there are a lot of ancient stons and walls and I always looking on the ground when I walk with the dog, may be I shall find something.( thank you for the comment in my blog. I googled her and it is interesting).
A cow you say - it looks to me like it could be any number of animals - the weathering has obviously rendered it anonymous. I have similar objects that I made when I took up pottery - maybe people in the future will wonder who made them.
I've always just presumed it to be a cow/bull; I think I'll stick with it. It makes life easier.
Looks like something you stole away from some Greek ruins!
Is it roman?
I rather like it Cro ….. let's say it''s naive … it sounds better than poorly executed !! I like all of the lichen over it …. I'd happily have it in my garden. XXXX
I've no idea.
It more 'garden' than 'indoors'.
I love pieces like this - forever a mystery.
It looks very old almost as though it's part of a grave stone or something.
It's early Bath.
I have seen a similar piece; it wasn't quite so eroded, but it was a lamb (Lamb of God...) and on a grave. Yours does seem to be very old and I'd put it under a covered porch as it could be worth a million billion dollars.
I hadn't thought about Lamb, maybe you're right. As for its value; I'm sure you're right!
The mystery of objects, their sources, is something that continually fascinates. And consider the eons it took for this piece of stone to form.....
