The Ebony Nectar (African Lager).

It's been so long that I'd genuinely forgotten how good it tasted.

Normally in the early evenings we settle down by the pool, under the shade of a swaying palm tree (OK, maybe not swaying), and consume our first (and possibly second and third) glass of wine of the day.

But recently it's really been far too hot for wine, so we've switched to cold beer instead. Yesterday by chance I discovered a can of 'Draught' Guinness languishing at the back of the fridge; it was just begging to be consumed.

Oh how delicious it was! And, frankly, I really would have thought it was a pukka 'Draught' Guinness.

Throw in a small bowl of spicy Bombay mix, or even a bag of good quality Pork scratchings, and it doesn't get much better.

I must remember to add 'INDUSTRIAL PACK OF DRAUGHT GUINNESS' to my shopping list.

  1. I drank it a lot as a teenager, when I thought it was 'cool' in the late '70's. What an idiot I was. I must try it again now I couldn't give a toss whether it's cool other than in the temperature sense.

    1. The last time I had a proper pint of draught, I was asked if I wanted it cold or iced; I chose the iced, it was sublime.

    2. Iced ale? You have spent too much time out of Blighty. They sell freezing Guinness here now too, which is good because it means you don't have to taste it.

  4. I just bought a 4 pack of guiness and used one to make a Guiness cake...recipe by Nigella Lawson...it was delicious...something to keep in mind if you think you can part with one of your beers.

    1. Lady Magnon's Christmas cake is based on Guinness cake (but not Ms Lawson's).

  5. My husband hated Guinness until he went to Dublin -- where he couldn't get enough of the stuff -- said it's a completely different experience... Myself, when it's hot, prefer icy cold rose from Provence in a frosty glass...

  6. I buy Guinness to make Christmas pudding. I also drink part of it, but not too much. The pudding takes most of it.

  7. I hope those palm trees aren't swaying, we've had enough of swaying trees - and buildings! - over here!

Mm, Guinness - haven't had that since the Seventies. Maybe I should treat myself for old times sake.

  10. I drank it nearly every night when we were on holiday in Ireland, but i haven't had it since then. I always prefer draught beer to bottled, although i've heard good things about the draught Guinness in a can.
