Toulouse March 2012.

When Serbian 'Black-Hand' member, Gavrilo Princip, murdered Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie in June 1914, little did he know that his pointless action would lead to a World War that would take the lives of nearly 40 Million people. Yes, 40 million people!

One wonders if, likewise, the al-Qa'ida or Mujahidin terrorists of today, realise the possible consequence of their individual actions.

In nearby Toulouse one such terrorist has been on the rampage, killing military personnel, as well as school children, and, rightly or wrongly, I can see a time when some bellicose western politician will loose his or her patience.

We all need to be so very cautious, re-assess our allegiances, and return to respect and love for our fellow man. Failure to do so could have the most terrible consequences imaginable.

  1. How very true, Cro. Sadly, I don't think most fanatics or lunatics care about the consequences of their actions. Fanatics usually think the end justifies any means, and lunatics believe they are God, or Jesus, or somehow infallible.

Growing up, I thought people were essentially good. I wonder now if that is true or whether it is wishful thinking on my part....

    1. People are, I'm sure, all born 'essentially good'. It's who they meet later on that makes the difference.

  2. I think that one of the strongest influences preventing "our" politicians "going" to an all-out world war again is that they haven't figured how yet how they would directly tax it.

At the very least a world war would need some dreadful public/private funding initiative, so maybe it's just the arithmetic of the contracts that's keeping the our peace?

  3. I too worry about the backlash that these awful events may cause. Experience says that the far right need little to stir them, and their growing numbers in France, as well as in the UK is frightening.

    1. Sarko was quick to visit Toulouse, but there's no doubt that the real winners will be the Le Pen's NF.

  4. I agree with Janice - it is a case of one lot of far-right fighting another, with the rest of the 40 million trying to sort it out.

Those explosions last night were just to make him jump, apparently.

    1. He's probably deaf now, and won't be able to hear their instructions.

  5. These are such frightening times where every day another threat, another senseless act could change the course of events. With the weapons that are available today, the consequences could mean the end of us all. I try not to think about it.

    1. Exactly. And it could all kick-off following some mindless act such as we've just seen in Toulouse.

  7. Doesn't it seem like the minute after one of these episodes is over, and you think we've all learned better, some idiot starts up again? I was surprised to hear about it happening in France, that's for sure.

  8. Well stated, Cro. Fanatics are so focused on what they deem absolutely necessary, that there is no room for reason. Frankly, i cannot imagine living life with such hatred.

I used to agree wholeheartedly with Tom Paine when he wrote that man is a rational animal. Now, i see such sweeping evidence to the contrary, i have to wonder what sort of depravity we have set in motion to see such behaviour flourish.

    fearfully and with suspicion

  10. I agree with you totally, Cro. What could happen doesn't bear thinking about.

  12. Already we are hearing on the news questions about whether the political posturing will benefit "Sarko" or the daughter of Jean-Marie Le Pen.

  13. I agree entirely Cro. It shakes me to have things like this happening in France and the atrocity in Norway too. I want to say that such things don't happen in Europe but that's nonsense as they clearly do. How is it that we do not learn?
