Yael, if you look for 'and did those feet in ancient time' in Wiki, you will see the origin of the song, and of Jesus's visit to England. Of course, it may all be myth.
Of course I first read what was written about the poem, here we say that everyone has their own Jerusalem, in a symbolic sense, and it is probably also in this poem. There is something empowering about it and that is good.
Know why you are playing something as uplifting as Jerusalem... keep your chin up lad, keep it up! Sad to say it, but is it time to up sticks and go to the other end of the pitch? Good luck and commiserations about yesterday's news!!
I used to love going into assembly at school and seeing that we would be singing Jerusalem ...... one of my favourite hymns..... I know it off by heart. XXXX
Dear Cro, I'm just back from France and was shocked to read what happened to your own French idyll. I can't imagine how you and Lady Magnon will manage to set things to rights from afar.
Lady M and Kimbo fly out to Toulouse in a couple of hours. They will do their best over the weekend, and return on Monday. All the locks have been changed and the house made 'secure' again. It just remains to see what damage has been done.

Optimistic Cro!
The difference between an optimist and a pessimist, is that the optimist enjoys himself whilst waiting for the inevitable! I AM that optimist!
This is a daily, optimistic, 'photos and comments' blog. I make no judgements (only occasionally), just notes. If you wish to comment in any way at all, please feel free. Everything and everyone (except the obdurate and dictatorial) is very welcome.
I was born just south of London, but for the past 50 years I've lived in S W France. I am a painter by profession, and writer by desire. Lady Magnon and I live between an ancient cottage in a tiny village in perfectly tranquil French countryside, and a bijou townhouse in Brighton UK. In France we have plenty of fruit trees, all situated amongst a view that takes the breath away, in the UK we have a handkerchief sized patio. We also have a Border Collie called Billy. I try to treat our planet with respect, and encourage others to do likewise (without preaching).
Contentment is a glass of red, a plate of charcuterie, and a slice of good country bread. Perfect!
From here, the closest to Jerusalem, I think of you and hope that the world will be better place.
ReplyDeleteThank you Yael.

Thank you. Yes I'm still reeling from the shock. This lifted my spirits.
DeleteA beautiful hymn with such wonderful scenery. The best of your country
ReplyDeleteIt's pulled me out of my depression.
DeleteThat was always my favourite.
ReplyDeleteAre you a WI member?
DeleteI don't feel old enough yet!
DeleteIt is surprising that the MKM Stadium in Hull was not amongst those lovely images.
ReplyDeleteAnd a certain small street in Brighton.

ReplyDeleteI do think it would make the perfect 'English' National Anthem; keeping GSTK as the UK anthem.
DeleteBeautiful hymn! I hope you are feeling a bit better today. Take Bill out for extra walks and maybe even some time by the sea will be enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's been quite sunny (and rainy) today so we've stayed outdoors chatting to friends more than we usually do.
