It's always a nerve-racking moment, opening the pool for another season; you literally never know what you're going to find after nearly 8 months underneath all its Winter coverings. However, we decided that today was the day!
There's quite a rigmarole to follow before everything can start to operate again. Then when all is completed you hold your breath, and flick that main pump switch.
Luckily this year everything worked. There's quite a bit of cleaning to do, both inside and outside the pool, but as far as the pump and filter and pipes are concerned, they're doing what they're supposed to do.
There's quite a lot of muck at the bottom of the pool (which you can't see), but it tends to gather into 'islands', and isn't that difficult to vacuum up.
You never know, we may even get to swim before June. It's showing 19 C at the moment, so I think we'll wait a bit.
Suddenly Summer is here.
I can hear your sigh of relief all across the Atlantic, Cro. It is so nice when good things happen and no expensive work is needed. Enjoy, and I wish you many sunny days.
ReplyDeleteIt's surprising how stressful such a simple thing can be. Anyway, all is going well; it's quite hot here.
DeleteI am swimming once a week but not too enthusiastic about it. On the other hand, had I your beautiful pool I'd be swimming in it every single day!
ReplyDeleteGreetings Maria x
When the water temperature rises above about 22 C, I shall swim every day. I usually do 300 metres at each swim.
DeleteWe have an above ground pool because our water table is so high---life in a swamp--- and it will be 92º here this weekend, Unfortunately Hurricane Matthew finished our pool off and the new one goes in next week.
ReplyDeleteAs long as it's filled with water it hardly matters if it's above or below ground. Just splash splash splash.
DeleteOooooo .... envy, envy, envy !!!!! Can't think of anything nicer than a dip in the pool ..... just not worth it over here in Blighty !!!! XXXX
ReplyDeleteOurs isn't heated so it's not always possible here either.
Delete19 degrees and no pool heating. I'll pass.
ReplyDeleteWith the weather we're having, it'll soon rise. As long as it's over about 22 C I'll suffer in silence.
DeleteWell your summer has finally begun! Happy times.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking though that the water must be freezing!! Hope you get !lots of hot sun very soon
I just looked, it's already up to 20 C. Still not swimming temperature, but it won't be long!
DeleteA happy picture.
ReplyDeleteWe've just had a cup of tea by the pool; it's back to the old routine.
DeleteYou picked a good day to open your pool. I'm surprised you're not tempted to have a quick dip?
ReplyDeleteToo busy, too cold (the pool). I've been mowing all day, as well as doing the pool.
DeleteIt is 24 degrees here now. My mother's boarding school in the 1930s had an outdoor, unheated pool. She claims they swam in it for the whole of the summer term, whatever the weather, from late April until late July. She said they swam fast.
ReplyDeleteMy Sussex Prep' school had a spring fed pool. It was always freezing, green, and filled with snakes. We loved it!
DeleteMy primary school in the 80s had an outdoor pool and I can remember swimming lessons in the rain, getting out shivering and being sent for a run round the pool edge to warm up before getting changed.
Delete24c here, no pool. The local one will be open next week.
ReplyDeleteHot everywhere. Weather seems world-wide.
Delete29 degrees outside now! I could at least dangle my feet in your lovely pool. Our river is not so tempting.
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted a house with a river; saves a lot on pool maintenance. Maybe a bit too cold for me, although before we put the pool in we always swam in a nearby lake.
DeleteI keep my pump on all year, especially in winter when it can get below freezing especial at night. No frozen pipes for me. In the spring 'summer I turn on the heater to warm the water so I can get in. Later this summer not need because of warmer evening and super hot days, 103 yesterday.
ReplyDeletecheers, parsnip
I have a neighbour who keeps his pool running all year round. I don't really see the point as we only swim from June to September. We don't have any heating.
DeleteIt has been very hot here today - thirty this afternoon.
ReplyDeleteI think it was about the same here. I was just in shorts all day.
Delete...and suddenly winter is here. :(
ReplyDeleteThe 'W' word is banned here for the next 6 months.
DeleteYe gods 30 degrees in Scotland!. Ok only for 1 day. But I am envisioning digging up the garden n putting in a heated pool for 1 day a year!.😀
ReplyDeleteNeed to google still don't really understand degrees, 100?
ReplyDeleteI only think in Centigrade. Just over 30 C here today, and it looks to last. Not sure if we'll get a swim though.
DeleteAbout 85 degree Farenheit Kirrie.
Delete86 good enough for me.
ReplyDelete85 even Rachel.
ReplyDeleteMy Scottish blue cold blood is slowly turning pink today, OK tomorroew rain n thunder n half the temperature, but will savour every last second today!.
ReplyDeleteBBQ tonight.
DeleteNew York is currently doing a little cool dip, with clouds and occasional rain. Great for this long holiday weekend... Your pool looks grand!
ReplyDeleteI haven't actually been in yet; I'm waiting for the temperature to rise a bit!!!
