It's possibly something that we've all considered at one time or another; what would you chose as your final meal before the 'death sentence'?
Most would probably plump for a big juicy steak, or a giant McBurger; but this is a serious business. If it is to be the final flavour you will experience (ever), then the choice must be carefully considered.
As I sat before my breakfast yesterday (below), I thought that it would now replace the Confit, or BBQ'd Lamb that I had previously imagined, and that a simple Bacon Sandwich would probably be absolutely perfect.
One slice of seeded wholemeal bread liberally coated with salted butter, a few slices of perfectly fried unsmoked Streaky Bacon, a splash or two of Lea & Perrins, and you have the ideal 'last meal'. You could go to the electric chair, or firing squad, a happy person (or as happy as is possible).
It's greasy, it's 'working class', it's delicious, and it's served in every 'kaff' in the country. It's even loved by Ed Miliband (below). What greater credentials could it possibly need!
I would love a bacon sandwich... but it would more than likely be the cause of my demise anyway!
ReplyDeleteThe one I made yesterday was so delicious. In fact I pity those who can't eat such things!
DeleteIf the death zap would be administered very, very soon after the food, I would opt for something I cannot normally eat, say a piece of chocolate cake. Gluten-free versions are just not the same!
ReplyDeleteWe've been eating some very good Chocolate Cake with our afternoon cup of Lapsang, but I still think I'll have my Bacon Sandwich.
DeleteDefo not my idea of a farewell to the world.
ReplyDeleteI dare say I'd lose my appetite anyway - given my "future"/lack of. Being of an orderly disposition [though you wouldn't believe it if you saw my desks] I'd rather leave this world with my bowels empty than suffering the indignity of my sphincter opening involuntarily [after the finale]. Seriously, Cro, do have some consideration for the executioner.
U
Frankly, I don't think I'd worry too much about my executioner. He/she would probably join me with a pre-work sandwich; Bacon, of course.
DeleteA bacon sandwich is a good choice but the bacon would have to be grilled and not fried and the bacon would need to be smoked.
ReplyDeleteMost of the smoked bacon on offer in GB tastes very 'chemical'. I prefer the unsmoked.
DeleteYou just need to find a better source of bacon Cro…go a bit more up market. Makes a huge difference.
DeleteWhat a delicious final meal! I would have smoked pancetta (cooked in the microwave to crispiness - sacrilage I know!) and unsalted butter on my 12 grain bread.
ReplyDeleteWell, it's a good thing we're not all the same; they'd run-out of unsmoked Bacon.
DeleteI have to remind myself that UK bacon is quite different from US bacon and therefore, in your instance, can be far superior as a sandwich filler. Our typical bacon, while delicious, is generally too salty. As for me, my final meal would be a luscious and giant steamed Maine lobster with all the fixings. And yes, chocolate cake! It would cost the prison wardens budget a small fortune.
ReplyDeleteI think a giant Lobster would be very high on my list too. A true luxury!
DeleteA jacket potato cooked in a bonfire. Fluffy insides dripping with melted (vegan) butter and cheese.
ReplyDeleteI've been doing them in the Microwave recently. They're quite different, but sill very nice.
DeleteAnything my mum prepared for me - Though she claimed not to be a good cook - I would relish it - flis x
ReplyDeleteMy Mother's steamed Bacon and Sage Roly-Poly pudding would be nice, but I think she'd have forgiven me going for the Bacon Sandwich.
DeleteSo you're a Lea and Perrins man on bacon? That's salty. Brown sauce all the way for me. Admire the single slice of bread, v low carb. And smoked bacon for me, with the addition of an egg since it's my last one in this world.
ReplyDeleteKimbo has recently introduced me to HP. I last had any over 60 years ago. I rather like it.
DeleteA big greasy cheeseburger with fries and lashings of good ketch-up.
ReplyDeleteOr fish n chips!
Indigestion? No need to worry about Indigestion the next day 😅
And something with chocolate and caramel to really finish me off
That sounds almost as good as my Bacon Sarnie; especially the 'big greasy' bit.
DeleteA nice slice of prime rib roast with a baked potato and veggies sounds good to me.
ReplyDeleteThat's very classic; more of a Sunday Lunch to me.
