Sunday round-up. Funny old world!

Some weeks are more bizarre than others, and we've had a few belters recently.

The whole world was SHOCKED when Harry and Thingy were pronounced 'Humanitarians of the Year' by some unknown US organisation. Have they been up to something behind our backs? I think we should be told! I quite expect someone will soon regret this very silly nomination, and prize.

The British 'Green Party' have been holding their annual conference. At previous conferences they have announced some very strange policies, including wanting to ban children from keeping pet Rabbits, and to reduce the length of artists 'copyrights'. This year they have declared that they wish to legalise ALL DRUGS (including Heroin, Acid, Cocaine, etc), and they also wish to ban private 'Landlords'. Of course, they don't stand a chance of ever running the country (thank goodness), but one can imagine the MASSIVE amount of homelessness this would create; as well as our streets becoming awash with drug-crazed smackheads. I imagine these policies were adopted after a seriously long night on their favourite mix of Ketamine and Coke.

The Labour party's slogan of 'Stop the Boats' continues to amuse everyone. Their latest policy of 'One in, one out' doesn't seem to be adding up as they imagined. Since this puerile scheme was envisaged, just 26 illegal immigrants (yes, 26) have been returned to France, and just over 36,000 were brought here by our Border Force boats (this year alone); who kindly pick them up mid-Channel, and bring them safely ashore. Like most people, my basic maths says that something doesn't seem to add-up; but then I didn't study at the LSE.

Why was I not surprised to hear that Labour MP Rachael Maskell's "stomach churned" at seeing fellow Labour MP's waving British flags at their party conference last week. "That's not the Labour Party" she said "they're just tatty bits of cloth". How do such people get elected to represent the country that they obviously hate so much?

And finally, Saint Donald of Washington seems to have brokered a peace pact between Israel and Gaza; and good for him if it holds. He is now aiming his peace-making skills at both Iran and Russia. Methinks he may be getting a bit big-headed. Threatening a bunch of Hamas terrorists isn't quite the same as threatening Putin. We'll see.

  1. Unfortunately, I could foresee a situation whereby the Green party were part of a government coalition - a "Stop Farage at all costs" tactical voting campaign ending up with a Labour/Limp Dum/Green/SNP/Plaid Cymru coalition outnumbering Conservative/Reform, and Greens demanding some of those policies as part of the bargaining. After all, we've seen them in coalition with SNP in Scotland, and some whacky policies coming out of that. Given that Labour are no fans of private rented accommodation anyway, they would probably grasp the chance to kill off the private rental sector. But we've still got to survive an indefinite period of Sir "I love China" Starmer first - with his current love-in to them we could easily end up as Hong Kong Mk II under their control. They will probably soon be the only ones mad enough to lend money to the UK to cover Reeve's's spendthrift ways.
Maybe you should have taken French citizenship after all and stayed there? Although France seemed to have its own set of problems under Macron.....??

    1. Is there anywhere that doesn't have a bunch of plonkers in power? It seems that every time I watch, or read, the news, they are all behaving oddly. I quite expect that 'coalitions' will pay a big part in the next election. They're already taking up their positions.

  2. It's amazing that with everything going on politically these last few years, and with the electorate's disdain for politicians, particularly both Labour and Conservatives, that the Lib Dems Party has failed to make any real impact given that they might be seen as an alternative choice. But of course they've now been over shadowed by Reform.
Interestingly the original Liberal Party lost full govermental power back in the mid 1920's and were never to see full power again.
I wonder if this will happen to Labour after the next General Election. Will they ever be forgiven for today's mess?

    1. Not just Labour - the Conservatives were justifiably punished for their years of failure, particularly on immigration. We could easily be in a situation where no one party has anywhere near a majority, and the horse trading of coalition formation begins. Didn't Belgium have a year or two a while back of no formal government because none of the various parties could agree on a stable coalition?

    2. Yes, I can't see the Tories returning for quite some time, even after their new promises at the recent Party Conference. The truth is that the Party is almost split now regarding who the Leader should be. And I suspect that they'd like to see Robert Jenrick installed, and to take the Party into a long lean period out of power, just like in 1997.

    3. Don't forget the 2010 Con/Lib Dem coalition between Cameron and Clegg. Clegg had promised an end to student fees, then reneged as soon as his legs were beneath the table. I don't think they've ever recovered from that. They simply cannot be trusted.

  3. And people wonder why Reform is doing so well in the polls! It’s not rocket science eh?
Meanwhile, Slimy Starmer slips and slides from one disaster to another…and still remains as PM.
Still, at least we have the budget to look forward to! 😫😆😫

    1. Yes, I can't wait for the next budget. At least Starmer and Reeves have promised 'NO TAX RISES'. Did they really promise that?

    2. Cro that depends on which taxes they promised not to increase, there are loads more they will 'fix'

    3. Starmer promised not to raise House Taxes (rates), he raised them at once. Reeves also promised not to raise taxes; she's done noting but!

  4. Although it has been an aspiration inherited from the previous government, Labour have never used the slogan "Stop The Boats". Besides - what about stopping the private planes, the air "tourists" and "students" who deliberately outstay their visas and those who still arrive in the backs of lorries or aboard big ferries coming into Harwich, Hull and Newcastle?
Rachael Maskell is an excellent constituency MP who represents the city of York with admirable energy and commitment. Following a worrying racial assault in the city, this is what she actually said about the recent illegal eruption of flags on numerous lampposts in York: “Let us be clear, these flags are more than just a flag of our country, for some they have been used to rally those who suppress the rights of others and perpetuate acts of hate. I am deeply worried that someone else will be hurt. York is far better than this, we stand for dignity, kindness, friendship and peace.”

    1. Maskell is obviously two-faced. She can't go around saying one thing to her supporters, and another to the outside world. Politicians need to be cautious, trying to explain away comments that she now regrets, doesn't cut the mustard. Sunak's 'Stop the Boats' slogan is still being used by Labour; I hear it all the time.
