Autumn in Brighton

Autumn has certainly arrived here in Brighton. In the 'Rest Garden' where I walk with Billy, leaves are thick on the ground, and those that are still on the trees are rapidly changing colour.

Lady Magnon is a volunteer 'Rest Gardener' on Wednesday mornings, and leaf-sweeping will be her major task for some while!

My shorts have been put away until next Summer, and my thermal vest has already seen one early morning outing. My denim jacket has been taken out of storage, and my favourite red scarf has been washed. I am just about ready for the colder weather to come.

Luckily down here, it has remained dry, and the storms that hit the north recently, have stayed away. In fact it's still quite sunny and summery; albeit quite cool in the early mornings.

I don't really dislike any season; what I do hate is rain or snow. Since we got back about 6 weeks ago, I have only worn my Barbour once; and even that was unwarranted.

I've just checked my long term forecast, and there's a small amount of rain on the horizon. Sadly, all our reservoirs are becoming very low, so we do need rain. I just hope it rains at night!

However, we were promised some rain for yesterday afternoon; I didn't really happen. I remain to be convinced!

Our weather is worse. 2 days of steady rain. Good for the garden but not for our next lot of visitors. They arrived yesterday in Tshirts and shorts. We were wearing long sleeves and jackets. Similar to Brighton, not winter yet, but getting there

I've just looked at our forecast, and it suggests we might have some rain today. As I have yet to venture outdoors (it's still dark) I don't know if they're right. We shall see!

Oddly enough I look forward to the Winter snow as it's such a rarity in London. I guess it reminds me of growing up as an excited kid playing in the snow back in my home village of Burnham in Buckinghamshire, not too far from John Betjamin's favourite Town, Slough.

Just looked at my weather app...looks as if it is raining in Brighton now! We had a lot yesterday ( Harpenden) it must have been just a bit too far North and missed you!

'Come friendly bombs' Slough? I really hate snow; it's wet and cold, I can't think of anything worse. But I loved it as a child!

It rained a bit just after I got back from Billy's walk this morning. It's stopped again now. No good for our reservoirs.

In the south East here we have had rain all night. Trouble is it's forecast all day too and day and night for four days, sigh!

Sorry to warn you that the long term weather forecast for Brighton is not good. There's going to be a mighty hurricane followed by a tsunami of biblical proportions which will surge inland. Your coastal city has earned God's wrath and I am afraid that a red scarf and a Barbour coat will be no defence.

Some of the trees here are actually starting to turn, but not the stunning colours of cooler climates - more your sad dead leaf colour. Our weather seems to waver between warm during the day, around 28ºC, and 18-20º early mornings and evenings. Rain has been forecast here too but we must have blinked and missed it - it's something our rivers and reservoirs desperately need. Once, many years ago, we had snow overnight - which lasted until the morning sun came up. Not enough to make a snowball, let alone a snowman!

It's quite bright here now, with a lot of blue sky. It can't make it's mind up!

I've just got plans from Amazon.UK for an ARK. I hope I can build it in time.

Between 12 C and 14 C here. I don't mind that, as long as I don't have to go out in the rain. Sunny now!

You would hate it up here then!

With Mrs Noah's help I am sure you can do it in time and maybe Kimbo will soon be back from France to manage the project. The neighbours will be surprised.

We have our moments. When it rains and the wind blows, it can be dreadful. But that hasn't happened for a while.

It's a lovely spot, A lot of locals don't even know it's there!

Hello Cro,

In all our time in Brighton, we did not venture into the Rest Garden. This was a serious mistake on our part, particularly as we are fond of visiting burial grounds and scouring the tombs and monuments to be found there. We can well understand that you visit often and it is good to know that your wife has joined the band of volunteers.

It's just been pouring here. A day of 'changeable' weather.

As with St Nicholas Churchyard itself, all the smaller gravestones are now placed around the periphery, making the open areas nice places to walk or relax. It's made a very pleasant little community for regular dog walkers.

It is pouring rain today and we need rain desperately. Even the stream on my property is dry. Autumn color is dim due to drought.
The leaves, acorns and pinecones are falling.
Nights are cool and even frosty sometimes.
The church garden looks ideal and nicely maintained. Good work by generous volunteers!

It's ended-up as a pretty foul day here. On and off rain and sun all day. I managed to avoid the rain; Lady M was not so lucky.

Lady M. Will be kept busy with leaf raking. Does it get composted?

Get your longjohns out , I have

Cro Magnon said...

She will indeed, and yes it does. There's a huge pile waiting to be used next year.

It was a foul day yesterday, but not really longjohns weather yet. I don't suppose it'll be long!
