Scotland used to attract visitors from the world over with their catchy slogan 'SCOTLAND, THE BEST LITTLE COUNTRY IN THE WORLD'.
However, some bright McSpark decided to find a new snappier slogan, more suited to the 21st C.
The appropriate Scottish government department allotted £125,000 (some say more) to find something really punchy; and the search was on!
New slogans came from all quarters, but one stood out from all the others; and here is the winner!
'WELCOME TO SCOTLAND' Which came from Scotland's renowned 'Leith Agency'. It now greets arrivals in airports, etc, throughout Scotland.
Good isn't it. Give that man a McKnighthood.

What a laugh. Someone taking the piss got a nice little nest egg.
I'm just amazed that I didn't think of it myself!
It's much the same as the wasteful surveys which results tell us what we have known for years.
This one is a classic.
Good innit?
That's astonishing! Some ad people are so creative - thinking outside the box. Who would have ever thought of "Welcome to Scotland"? Pure genius!
Just what Albert Finney says to the bad guy in James Bond's Skyfall , before he shoots him. Best line in the film. haha.
Yup!
My thought exactly. Brilliant, and worth every penny!
He was obviously before his time!
A nice story….unfortunately mostly inaccurate and extremely dated.
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is in the process of choosing a new motto and redesigning its flag... Sad, so sad.
Why can't people just leave things alone.
Tiny details do vary, but the essence is correct.
We had a great time in Scotland last spring, I would go back anytime.
And what did that little bit of genius cost?
I've only been a few times, but I always enjoyed it.
Some say as little as £125,000, others say £150,000. Take your choice!
Actually not. The change was 18 years ago. No money was spent in the new slogan. The £125,000 was for new signage etc. More than tiny details in my view.
You'd have to argue that with every report I've read.
Just because you have read a report doesn’t make it true Cro. Fact check
Even reading your comment doesn't make it true either!
