I know cats like to be in high places but this seems hard to believe? Do you think it is a photo shop creation? The Humane Society would definitely not approve.
My take on it is that the cat was a stowaway. Once he was spotted, they landed straightaway. I would not have dared to reach for him in the air, either. It might have sent him into a panic. That's an awful long way for a cat to fall, and I don't think landing on his feet would have been any great help at that height.
Reading the story, the cat is a 'mascot' of sorts. He was hidden inside the wing of the ultralight and came out midflight. It sounds as if he could have retreated to safety back inside the wing, but he seemed very interested in the view, didn't he?

Judging by the relaxed demeanour of the humans, this was a fairly common occurrence.
Perhaps the cat was a seasoned flyer. It didn't seem to panic!

I'm sure it's genuine, but whether or not it was set up; who knows. The cat may be a regular flyer!!! Like some dogs go surfboarding.

He looked to me as if he was actually enjoying it.
