Haddock's 2023

I had really been looking forward to planting a few Courgette plants up at Haddock's. I only bought 4 plants, and have added a few Broccoli plants as well.

Both are plants that grow quickly, and will hopefully give us a reasonable crop before we leave; especially the Courgettes.

I know it looks a mess and that the Courgette plants are probably planted too close together, but I couldn't resist growing something. Not to do so would go against my whole bucolic philosophy.

Everything seems to be doing well. I took the photo about 3 days ago, and the plants have already doubled in size.

  1. Best of luck with Haddock's this year! :) I wish I could send you a box of my tomatoes.

    1. Oh, how I'd like that. I'm having to rely on a neighbour for my Tomatoes.

  2. The courgettes will soon give you ground cover, that should help the look and the production

    1. It's amazing, I can already see tiny courgettes just waiting to grow.

  3. I grew zucchini once, only one bush and had enough to feed the entire extended family! I miss that garden.

    1. They don't stop once they get going. I always pick them quite small too.

  5. We started off with four courgette plants but now have two and a half... one was completely shredded, probably by slugs, and another was only just saved from the same fate but is still sulking. The other two are doing well with tiny courgettes just emerging.
    Good luck with yours too.

    1. The first thing I do after planting is to sprinkle a few Slug Pellets (wildlife friendly) around. If I didn't I'd have nothing.

    1. Yes, a lot of ex-pat owned homes have now been put-up for sale. They can't be bothered any more.

  8. The courgette plants will be complaining to the council about overcrowding! I have got three plants growing in our vegetable plot - they are from seeds I put in pots at the end of April.

    1. I bought plants as I only have a three month growing window. No crops as yet.

  9. Sort of my whole life philosophy: Plant thick and thin! I can always take out a plant or two here and there. It is a season lost when I see I could have added more - but didn't. Cheers!

  11. They look healthy plants, so I hope that you get a bumper crop. Looking at your photo and thinking back, Haddock's is a far cry from pre-Brexit days.

    1. Luckily a friend dug a small square of land, and covered it with black plastic, so I was able to just turn it over a bit and plant. Otherwise I wouldn't have managed it. Yes, a very different garden to a few years back.
