A timely reminder to respect our wildlife.
Don't trim your hedges between mid March and the end of July. Birds, small Mammals, and other wild creatures are busy making nests and raising families. Your tidiness can wait until they're done. The world needs their input.

1st March until the end of August here in Scotland. We don't cut until the end of September and later if there are berries still on. We usually leave hedges until the new year.
In France a lot of farmers start their 'slashing' as soon as the first new shoots appear. It's crazy.
We are in Ayrshire...so many hedges get cut when full of berries....not good for birds or foragers!
That's something I've never heard of here. I will ask those who understand more than me in such matters. Such a warning is so important.
Ours used to wait until the autumn for their haircut. We don't have much in the way of hedges now in this garden.
In France my neighbour has a habit of cutting back his hedges just when the Blackberries are perfect. I'm sure he does it to annoy me!
It IS important. Our wild life is essential to the health of the planet.
It doesn't hurt to be scruffy for a while.
I've never heard of this either. Hedges arent cut here so there's not too much danger there but anything in the long grass will get it's home destroyed as spring strimming starts.
Tidiness is addictive. I'm probably guilty of it myself.
I have solemnly sworn not to trim my hedges at all. (Disclaimer: I actually don't have hedges.)
The wildlife are indeed very busy. Spring is rebirth. Now we all need some sunshine and warm air.
Nests around here are usually high up in the trees and there aren't many hedges where I live either.
Sadly, no such warnings here, and it won't be long before the hunters are out taking pot shots at tiny birds - who can't shoot back.

I don't think I'd want to encourage too much Aussie wild-life. Don't they all want to kill you?
In France now is roughly the time when hunting ends. It gives all the wild-life time to replenish.

No, I didn't know that. I never see baby Squirrels, but the big ones often shout at me.
Our backyard is a wildlife refuge... (looks a bit like Jurassic Park) - just a large lot on a creek. Since the kids are grown, we've given the area over to the ferals (feral cats, raccoons, possums, box turtles, etc.) And we let the grass grow close to the back patio around Easter... because the feral cats love to hide in it.
