Almost an adventure.

Yesterday was a very busy day.

On Saturdays we buy our bread for the week from a tiny baker at a nearby village.

I picked-up a couple of large sourdough loaves, plus the above garlic-encrusted fougasse.

Outside the baker's, I noticed a small road-side stall about 20 metres away. I asked the baker what they were selling, and he replied 'Goat's cheese'.

So, I also bought a few Cabécous (small round fresh Goat cheeses), and this really delicious looking 'Garlic and Herb' Goat cheese, that will go perfectly with the fougasse. Whilst I was there, the baker turned-up with coffee and croissants for the cheese man. How nice of him.

On nearing home, I was flagged down by my neighbour, José, who very kindly gave me some 'Portuguese' Tomato plants (my favourites), and told me to help myself to Cherries.

Just in case we were short of something for lunch, I also knocked-up some hummus, which was sprinkled with sumac.

Pool opening, pool cleaning, hedge trimming, bread buying, Tomato planting, and Cherry picking; it was a good Saturday morning's work (and a very nice lunch too).

I decided to leave my mowing until tomorrow; I was knackered. I pottered for the rest of the day.

  3. Cherries are not even close to being ripe here. I love a good sourdough.

    1. I've just come in from looking at my own Cherry trees.... not a single Cherry on them; they've all fallen off. Yes, a good Sourdough loaf is wonderful. Our little baker makes the best!

    1. Maybe, but you have Pork Pies, Fish-n-Chips, Chinese restaurants, Take-away curries from M & S, and Jellied Eels; to mention just a few.

    2. Urgh jellied eels.. when I was a child I would walk in the door after school and there was that smell. My dad loved them and took every opportunity to jelly some eels. I used to walk directly back out and stay at a friends till the smell went.

    3. I've never tried jellying them myself, but the ones I used to buy were delicious.

  6. I am envious of your shopping. Your fougasse with goats cheese sounds exotic even to me. I am sure french goats cheese is a level, or two, above ours.
    Life is good !

    1. The cheese was very good, we shall have the Cabecous for lunch today. As I'm sure you know, it's so nice to buy really good quality products from the maker. I've not seen this man before, but I'm sure he'll do really well roadside.

    1. It's a middle-eastern spice. A bit lemony; but nothing special. Out of habit, I always sprinkle some on my hummus.

  11. Sounds like a very good day. I make my own humous too but I'd not heard of sumac (despite my reasonably extensive collection of herbs and spices). It looks really interesting. I shall send out the searchers.

  13. A delicious collection of shopping and a very busy and productive day. I decided to tidy the front garden. I dug over the beds and then decided that I would scrape the moss off if the drive. I woke up this morning with sciatica ..... I am really good with pain but this is excruciating .... I don’t know what to do with myself ... can’t even sit down ! That will teach me ! XXXX
