Saucy!

Yes, we still have ripening Tomatoes in late December.

Stick them somewhere sunny, and they ripen in no time. Lovely.

We're having to buy supermarket toms, they just don't taste anything like 'real' ones.

That's one of the WORST things about Winter.

Cro Magnon said...

Not quite the same flavour as Summer sun-ripened ones, but they'll do!

That garden of yours is incredible....or is it the gardener? Wonderful plump tomatoes too. our Bougainvillia is still flowering which amazes me in this freezing weather

They look lovely! That is how I remember real tomatoes should look like; each one different to the other. As a child my dad used to pick the best tomato, warm from the plant and salt it for me to eat on the spot. Thank you for the memory, Cro.
Greetings Maria x

I'd love to grow Bougainvillea here, but I fear that it is too cold in winter. I certainly haven't seen any around.

Two nights ago it was -2 C here; still not that bad!

There are always bits to be cut away, but what's left is delicious. As you say, just a sprinkle of salt is enough.

Wet, damp, cold , dirty here

Foul here. Misty, cold, and damp. I shall light the fire early.

Lucky man. I just bought some plumb tomatoes. They were the right bright red but I know they will be tasteless. I get them now for texture and color in dishes.

Cro Magnon said...

I cannot understand why so many producers are happy to grow such tasteless junk. No doubt I'll be buying them too in the new year.

I forgot about some cherry tomatoes left in the greenhouse to ripen - sadly they have all turned to mush
:(

An excellent riposte, sir. I salute you from 7000 miles...

Oh dear. I'll have to use mine quite quickly.

After three days of continuous, torrential rain, the sun has finally come out and it's quite warm !

We have picked tomatoes from our vines in June which I guess equates to Dec here in the south.I just throw them in a container whole to freeze. Works perfectly and much easier than blanching etc

Cro Magnon said...

A good percentage of our Summer crop is now in bottles or in the freezer. These were just a late bonus. We ate several yesterday.

We've been promised rain for the 24th; we'll see. Otherwise it hasn't rained here for months.
