Five successive 'ands' in a sentence.

Old Mick, the landlord of The Coach and Horses, was having a new sign painted for his pub'.

When the painter brought it to Mick for inspection, he looked at it attentively, then said......

"There's too much space between coach and and, and and and horses". Voila!

And whilst I'm in a pedagogical mood, did you know that there are only two words in the English language that contain all 5 vowels in alphabetical order?

Facetious and Abstemious.

Don't say you don't learn something over at Cro's.

I collect useless info. I have a book full.

That sentence will probably only work if said with a proper London accent! x

That would be two 'ands' and three 'ans'. Coach 'an and, 'an and 'an 'orses.

..or an Irish one....

Thank you, besides the vowels, I've also learnt two new words today. I thought of the word "ambitious" but realised I was spelling it wrong; with an "e" instead of the 'i' . Silly me! Now I have learnt to spell it correctly. Greetings Maria x

Well I can't say I didn't learn anything. I didn't know about the 'ands'. Oddly enough I did know about facetious and abstemious although I couldn't have told you they were the only two.

And yours is far more attractive than mine.

The first one I have come across before in our school grammar text book in the days when grammar was taught. The second is new and I will happily reproduce when the opportunity arises. Thanks.

And how funny - I was thinking about the Coach and Horses in Farnham yesterday, so Googled it up. It has been closed down like so many other pubs, and is now boarded up with a To Let sign on it.

Cro Magnon said...

That was my favourite pub; what a shame.

Cro Magnon said...

Are you sure about that?

Cro Magnon said...

Me too.

I can't remember where I first saw it, but it was a long time ago.

My husband calls it useless information, I call it knowledge.

Being one who prides herself on knowing useless information, I thank you for adding to my storage of "who cares"

Knew the first but not the second Cro. So added to my store of useless information too.

There's always someone who'll come along and burst my balloon. I've not heard of 'Anemious', but I'll add it to the list anyway. Thank you.

Cro Magnon said...

You're both right.

Good.

The more useless information one has, the better.
