Semi-Hibernation.

I don't like the cold; especially the nasty freezing drizzle we've been experiencing lately. In fact I'd be perfectly happy to spend the whole Winter indoors.

So, what do we do to make it bearable? Well, we do consume rather a lot of hearty soups, casseroles, and roasts. Otherwise we wrap up warmly, take the dogs for long walks, and put a few extra potatoes to bake in George (our wood fired cooker).

Mostly, however, we lounge around the sitting room fire, leafing through old donated newspapers, filling in crossword puzzles, or reading books.

Other than sawing and splitting logs, there's really not much else to do.

You may have noted from the above pix that we have very little appetite for domestic duties.... that'll have to wait until Spring.

It isn't first thing this morning... I haven't lit the fire yet!

Sounds good to me - I seem to spend an inordinate amount of time staring through windows.

It's very much an 'old cottage'.

I do that at lunchtime.

Looks nice and comfy. Unfortunately, our winters are not harsh enough for the lawns and weeds to stop growing so life goes on much as it does in summer.

Our grass hasn't really grown since November... it just looks scruffier.

Lady M is a member of a 3 person book club. The JB book was amongst a recent pile.

'Cosy' is the right word; it needs to be with the foul weather we're having.

This morning I did a little tidying in the garden. Now I'm sitting in bed wearing two jumpers and with a hot-water-bottle in the small of my back. Book and laptops are my companions. I dream of doing some housework sometime but . . . it's cosy where I am!

Trade you your freezing drizzle for my Tuesday's thirty-three inches of snow. I'll even sweeten the pot by throwing in the twelve more inches expected on Friday.

It looks very cozy to me, Cro. There is nothing better than sitting by the fire on a cold day. We, the dog and the cats enjoy that, too. I am heading over to a friends' home soon as she has invited me for a hot bowl of home-made soup. :) Stay toasty, Deb

You could always write poetry. I think you would enjoy that.

Nothing better than a good book and a warm fire.

It has been so warm here that I’ve yet to have a day of lounging by the fire.

Send some of that rain to California, please.

Throw in some gentle hand sewing and eating toast and crumpets and it sounds perfect!

Cro Magnon said...

Oh for some crumpets.... France hasn't yet discovered such delights!

We had snow, and like M. Silvius, are expecting more tomorrow. I get to add "digging out" to your list, and I do like to snowshoe, so that happens from time to time, too.

Your home looks inviting and cosy!

Life's too short to worry about domestic duties isn't it Cro ? Is that Monty having a kip in the corner ? XXXX

Yes it is. And Bok is on the sofa in the first photo; well hidden.
