SPLASH!

I'm not a fan of 'Celebrity TV Reality Shows' (in fact, I can't stand them), but the Dutch show 'Splash' has taken the concept to acceptable heights (ahem).

The very thought of taking a few Celebs (however obscure), and making them throw themselves off a high-dive board, really appeals to me; even more so if they actually perform well.

I've seen bits of two episodes of the UK version of the show, and, frankly, have been amazed by the bravery and eventual skill of the Celebs involved. One particular small boy (above left with hair) couldn't see A THING without his spectacles, but performed almost like a pro'. I have no idea who he is or what he does!

If you have the time, it's worth watching; if only for 15 mins.

  1. I read yesterday that it's being axed because of poor viewing figures. We watched a couple but found it a bit wet !! BOOM BOOM !!
I do think that they're scraping the bottom of the barrel a bit ….. I don't know if you've seen it but there's another one on at the moment called ' Jump ' where celebrities have to compete in various winter sports and the two with the lowest scores have to go down a ski jump to see who jumps the furthest !!!! The things that Z list celebrities will do to try and get their career back !! They even go down the luge !! Apparently, ITV wouldn't take the show, especially after Michael Shumacher's accident. 1. I suppose the reason why it fascinated me was because I used to love high-diving, but always found it frightening. I'm just amazed that these people, who've never done anything like this before, can suddenly be so brave! Even so, the 15 min rule applies.

I've not heard of 'Jump', but it sounds very similar.

  2. You certainly wouldn't catch me on a diving board or on that programme - I hate heights, hate being out of my depth in water and certainly wouldn't put myself up for ridicule as I can't dive anyway. Each to his own I suppose.

  3. I sit shouting TURN ROUND at the TV set for an hour on a Saturday night at the same time you are watching Splash.

  4. Yes I think it is quite good too, especially as I have always been quite a good swimmer but could never master diving, even off the side of the pool. It takes a lot of courage to dive from that height.
Thanks for sending that horrible rain over here.

  5. I have only ever watched a couple of minutes of " Splash"…not really my thing. The little fellow with the hair is Perri Kiely, and he is the smallest member of a rather good dance/acrobatic troupe called " Diversity" who won " Britain's Got Talent" a few years ago. Worth finding a clip of them if you have the time! Splash is filmed in Luton, just a few miles from here ( Harpenden)

    1. I'd imagined he was a child actor in something like Coronation St. Thanks for enlightening me.

  6. My attempts to learn how to do a running front dive from a low spring board had my whole swim class laughing hysterically. Remember that guy at the Barcelona Olympics who not only hit his head on the board going down, but managed to win the gold medal? And no I didn't hit my head going down, I didn't even managed to go head first!

    1. It matters not to win or lose, but how one plays the game!

  7. I think there are two sides on reality shows. On one hand, we like to see new things. On the other hand, the show makers know that they need to get more and more crazy in order to get more viewers. Very rarely they get the new/crazy balance right, and I think this show is one of these occasions.

  8. Are you sure you haven't gone a little stir crazy being trapped in your cottage by bad weather all this time?

  9. The problem for me with reality shows is the time that they take talking a load of twaddle in between the actual event, or am I just a moany old lady.. Better not answer that. lol
