DeleteAmerica is a very strange place. I watched a TV auction of what they called 'antiques' once, and the auctioneer whipped up the viewers into an almost spiritualist frenzy over patent junk. Stuff that you find in skips over here sold for hundreds of dollars.
DeleteWhen I was in the business I had to deal with lots of American buyers. They'd rush around, sticking red stickers on everything that interested them, then an agent would follow, trying to get the prices down. We of course would put the prices UP, then reduce them to where they were. The agent would then take his commission on the savings, as well as his usual fee. Everyone was happy.
