Has he gone totally bonkers?

All political leaders have a duty to look after the welfare of their own countries first and foremost, but not at the expense of blatant hypocrisy.

We all know that Russia is the aggressor in the Ukraine conflict, and Trump has always previously accepted this. So why, now that the USA is short of Diesel Oil, does he suddenly do a U-Turn and begin to side with Putin?

In order to please US Diesel users, he is literally bankrolling the slaughter of innocent Ukrainians.

There is plenty of Diesel around, even Canada has lots. So why would Trump contribute to Putin's war fund, and buy from Russia. His actions are morally bankrupt.

Why would he also suggest that Zelenskyy should resign? One minute he insults him, the next he is friendly, and now he thinks he should go. He even had the cheek to suggest that Zelenskyy 'could have finished the war years ago'.

This isn't a children's playground where you side with the strongest. In 'grown-up' life, morals count more than simply backing whoever is of the most useful. What ever happened to 'Right and Wrong'. Where are 'Decency and Honesty'?

We all expect our own governments to look after our own economies before that of others, and Trump's US economy is 'expanding at a moderate pace'. So why is he now helping Russia? Has he some ulterior motive in mind?

And let us not forget that just TWO MONTHS AGO Trump was threatening to penalise all countries who imported oil from Russia. What happened during the interim???

Boris has suggested that we send gunboats to intercept the Russian tankers, but I think that MIGHT being going a tad too far, and would cause even more trouble from both Russia and the USA.

Is it now just Europe that sticks by high moral standards?

We have always known that Putin was an evil bast*rd, but Trump now seems to be joining him.

I have yet to find a politician who has any standards certainly no moral ones.

Actually, I would suggest Enoch Powell, he was far from the hate figure usually portrayed, and his instincts were sound and way ahead of time as subsequent events have shown. I heard him speak at my school Founders Day in the mid sixties and he put all of the other nonentities that we had endured to shame.

Powell and John Biffin were always regarded as the two major 'intellectuals' of the House of Commons. I worked with Biffin, but never met Enoch.

It really is like a bad dream. In all seriousness, where will.it end?

Cro, you have much to learn if you still have any expectations of decency or honesty from the orange one. I just hope the damage he has wrought can be undone.

His recent behaviour I find quite worrying.

Reputations tend to stick, even with a change of regime. I think the Europe/US relationship is at rock bottom.

Cro Magnon said...

That doesn't surprise me. There are loopholes everywhere. Trump is a megalomaniac who thinks that he can do no wrong, and that everyone must agree with all he says. He must be amongst the worst ever US Presidents.

morals don't come into it. You can't reason with him. What he says, goes. He changes his mind all the time. It must be like walking on glass , working for him.

Cro Magnon said...

When we see him spouting from behind his White House desk, I always wonder what the group of flunkies behind him are thinking.

I'm no fan of politicians, most of them are only interested in feathering their own nest, but Trump is morally bankrupt.

Let’s just hope that the Republicans get clobbered in the mid terms! I cannot understand people who support him. There is little point in engaging with his supporters as they just use the lazy “TDS” response.

Regarding the UK purchasing fuel that has originated in Russia but has been refined in another country, you will be pleased to know the Starmer government voted to phase that look hole that Johnson introduced.

I just find his behaviour BIZARRE; and that includes the way he speaks.

Trump seems incapable of understanding the fact that Putin ordered the invasion of a sovereign nation with ideas of re-establishing the old Soviet Union. Trump has never given Ukraine the full-blooded support that it required and that has allowed Putin to exploit the situation and press on with his "military operation". The amount of diesel that Russia could provide is minimal. Trump has made this move because he thinks it might help to thwart the thrashing he is expected to receive in the US mid-term elections. As always, it is all about him and his ego.

Cro Magnon said...

No-one speaks about it here, so we can't blame anyone of hypocrisy. That ONE good thing!

Cro Magnon said...

I will never forget how rude he was to Zelenskyy in the White House. Inexcusable.

Trump and his gang cornered President Zelensky that day when they should have been bowing their heads and applauding him. Of course Trump was a draft dodger so he doesn't really know what it means to fight for your country.

Lynn Marie said...

We've known in the US for quite a while that Trump is a Russian operative. This is not new, but glad to hear it's sinking in elsewhere.

Traveller said...

It’s interesting how often Trump’s bone spurs come up but not Biden’s asthma and the steps Bush and Clinton took to avoid the draft. Though, to be honest, I reckon I would have been across the 49th parallel as quick as a rat out of a drain pipe than fight in such a deeply flawed war.

Cro Magnon said...

Well, I suppose that if the USA, Russia, and China were to become best-buddies, it might prevent any future warfare. Or is that just wishful thinking?

With the midterm elections coming up, DJT has been campaigning heavily in Ohio for the state elections as well as the US House and Senate elections. Ohio's elections are quite ugly and he's adding more fuel to the ugliness.

Trump is A Putin Puppet. That is all you need to now. Putin is always in his ear. Trump is a very stupid man Dumb.

Cro Magnon said...

We don't usually take too much notice of foreign elections, but in this case we'll make an exception!

Cro Magnon said...

It would be better if Putin was a Trump Puppet. It's all a big mess.

America produces more than enough diesel fuel to meet its own domestic consumption needs. Trump told Zelensky that he must not bomb the diesel fuel refineries in Russia so that the rest of the world can continue to be supplied. Zelensky understands this but went ahead and did it anyway. We just opened a refinery in California against Governor Newsom's protests. Under Biden the refineries got shut down as they did in your nation in compliance with the Green New Deal. We are all in this together. Zelensky understands this. I'm sure your government does also. Oil is fungible.. Refineries aren't.

Kathe said...

The U.S. now supplies a major share of Europe's imported diesel—roughly 32% to nearly 60% of what North-West Europe imports from outside the region. Trump wants to continue to do this. This is why he told Zelensky absolutely do NOT bomb Russian refineries. If we keep all our diesel fuel here in the US, the world will suffer greatly. Again, Zelensky KNOWS this!

1. Trump is psychologically damaged; he cares only about himself and what fulfills his needs. He is crude, nasty, and vindictive. 2. He is barely educated but he is a clever, in the British sense, con artist. He is not patriotic, nor does he care about American values or traditions. He does not believe that the law applies to him. 3. His major motivators are money and praise. He is aligned with Putin because Putin, KGB trained, is able to manipulate him (in a long game to destabilize and destroy the U.S.). 4. There is no bottom to how low Trump will go; especially now, as his self-control and rationality appears to be declining.

Cro Magnon said...

I know nothing of the ins-n-outs of international Diesel availability, but I do know that Canada is selling to the US cheaper than Trump is now buying from Russia. And they have plenty.

Cro Magnon said...

It's all so complicated. I don't suppose we'll ever be told the entire truth about the deals between Trump and Putin.

Kathe said...

Politicians come and go. What we all are concerned with is what we are paying at the pump and in the stores which is trucked in and affected by fuel prices. What is that song, "Money makes the world go round".? The folks that run this planet know this. That's why they encourage perpetual wars. War is money to them. Wouldn't it be better if we all as citizens of this planet stop letting ourselves be manipulated to hate one another by those folks? It's like the divorce lawyers for both sides getting together to keep the couple fighting. Follow the money.

Cro Magnon said...

You describe him very well. I was always ready to give Trump a chance (as I am with everyone), but my patience has run-out. He is a dangerous megalomaniac hypocrite. I just hope you have someone better in the wings, ready to take over.

Traveller said...

Thinking “the folks that run this planet want perpetual wars” is risible

I'm watching Foyle's War, again! . Such a good series. The last episode was about an Englishman and his "global" business that made margarine selling to Nazi Germany. Eisenhower called it the Military Industrial Complex when it comes to arms. Ukraine/Russia making great profits for these non-patriots.. Nothing new under the sun.

Our problem is that the world is run by about three people; Trump, Putin, and Xi. And as evil as they are, no-one is prepared to 'take them out'. The rest of the world (almost) wants to live in peace; but THREE are more powerful than Billions.

The Irish repaired and re-fuelled German U Boats during WW2. These things happen, and should never be forgotten.

Rian said...

"amongst the worst ..." NO!... THE WORST! The man is evil. Don't understand why everyone doesn't see that??? He's destroying what America has always stood for. But I don't think it's only our country that's in trouble, I think, sad to say, the world is in trouble.

Yep not even in Tasmania ...next stop the South Pole.

It will end badly unless he goes and that is very unlikely. The way he spoke to Zelensky was outrageous. The R epublican Party have a lot to answer for by allowing this disturbed individual to be a candidate. What is wrong with the people who voted for him? SOMEthing terribly wrong there too.If the Democratic Party had put forward a stong candidate the US might not be in this situation. They are responsible as well

Did you not realise that Trump Ewan evil

I always regarded him as slightly comical, with a devious edge. After his recent behaviour I'm seeing him a bit differently.

I can see similarities to the UK. People will vote for a 'tough guy' who promises to close borders, and kick out those who are in the country illegally. If such things are not done 'naturally', people will vote for a nasty enforcer.

The British invaded Ireland , and still remain in power in the North . The Irish never thought oh the British as allies , but occupiers . And as a neutral state in WW2, The Republic broke no laws in deciding who to aid
