The hierarchy of Church of England have been making some very bizarre pronouncements in recent times. It really isn't surprising that they now have so few followers, and that their churches are almost empty.
The new Archbishop of Canterbury (the C of E boss), The Right Reverend, The Right Honourable, Dame Sarah Mullally DBE, seems to go from one crazy controversy to another.
First it was her aim to hand-out £100 Million as recompense for slavery. I'm not sure who would receive this money, or even why; but I do know that the money put into the collection boxes on Sundays wasn't intended for that!
Just recently, on the anniversary of 9/11, she wanted to present Tahir Ashrafi (above with someone in disguise) with a 'Reconciliation and Interfaith Co-operation Award'. In the past, Ashrafi has praised Bin Laden, referred to the Hamas Oct 7th terrorists as 'Freedom Fighters', and claimed that all suicide attacks against NATO peace-keeping forces were 'Lawful'. He also says that all men should be allowed FOUR WIVES, without having to ask any permission. Regardless, our lovely new Wokey Archbishop thought him worthy of some Christian 'Award'.
She has since had her hand slapped, and has backed down. It was obvious to all except her and her Wokey chums, that his views were 'outrageous'.
Shouldn't someone in her position be concentrating on spreading her Mumbo-Jumbo, rather than back-slapping supporters of terrorism? One really wonders what this woman will get up to next!
It used to be the case that our Archbishops of Canterbury dealt in matters of Creed and Morality. These days it's all Politics and Wokery. A very sad sign of the times!

British slavery caused millions of victims, Germany is still paying for the Holocaust which is comprehensive. Slavery was a terrible thing and the British Empire was an active player.
We know that only too well. The Barbary Pirates took hundreds of thousands of English and Irish slaves, but for some reason we aren't asking for recompence.
Perhaps the native Africans who captured the 'slaves' before selling them to the traders, should also take some blame.
How will they apportion the blame? Each present day descendent of the traders paying whatever the "going rate" is? This isn't practical and the horrors comitted then were deemed "acceptable" at the time. No-one had the foresight (or the inclination?) to stop before it became a world-wide scandal.
Coppa's Girl
Slavery was endemic all over the world. It still is more widespread than normally acknowledged. The British did more than most to eliminate it at great expense in terms of cash and lives. The British owe nobody anything at all. The people asking for money are not motivated by anything except greed.
It's very easy to say "We're going to give £100 Million to right the wrongs", but as you say, who would receive this money? If it was given to ruling political parties, it would end up elsewhere. Who will pay the UK for all our people who were taken as slaves? The whole idea is illogical, and just plain virtue signalling.
Someone needs to tell Mullally that; she seems unaware of the true history of slavery.
Only FOUR wives? SIX would suit me. One for each day of the week with a traditional day of rest on Sunday. Mrs Mullally would be better offer getting some overalls and a hard hat and taking an ecclesiastical stone masonry course. She'll never be out of work.
The last Archbishop was bad enough. This one sounds incredibly naive. Where do they find them and who the hell elects them
I think she'd be better-off doing almost anything other than being a do-gooder. She seems to get it wrong time after time. Carving Gargoyles would suit her!
Welby was a well-meaning oddball, who seemed to get himself tied in knots. I'm no believer, but I think they should return to electing more traditional type church leaders. We've had too many opinionated ones.
She inherited the paying of money as recompense for slavery from Welby. She decided to run with it. The local parishes of the Church of England collection plates are now considerably down each Sunday because the congregations of the churches do not wish their plate money to go this way, this wish it to be used for the local church as it was intended. So now they don't dig deep into their pockets. I wrote about it some time ago. By the way, Welby resigned because he covered up a child abuser soon after he took office. He hid this for years.
Could you please tell me why this insanity is infecting the world in almost every aspect. It is never ending and the outcome appears bleak. You seem like a normal level headed person. If you represent the majority how and why is this nightmare situation happening? Maybe you don't represent the majority?
It's just a naïve idea that's designed to appeal to the gullible church lefties. If anything, the church should be making amends for all the atrocities committed in the name of religion.
Some groups have better propaganda machines than others. They need to warrant support for their cause by shouting loudly. The more logical citizens feel no urgency to explain truth.
She could carve dozens in the image of you. Then nobody would venture into a church ever again.
Yöu seem all to be historians lol and
seem to be experts in twisting the truth .
Thank you.
I didn’t know much about the Barbary Pirates, so thanks for mentioning them.
It seems crazy to me but then again pretty much everything to do with any religions also seems crazy to me. The CofE is going to need to make some difficult decisions soon. There are about 10,000 rural churches in England, the vast majority of which are Grade 1 listed. Average Sunday attendance has dropped by almost a half since 2000 and the vast majority of people are past retirement age. Fewer and fewer people believe in God in this country. The CofE has greater problems than paying reparations.
They have the option of changing from 'religion' to 'philosophy'. To cut out all the nonsense, and concentrate on well-being and life-style. I think they might find their congregations increasing.
Don't just believe what you were told as a child; do some actual research. It's a much more complicated story than many imagine
The British trade with the "Asiento privilege" which you may not have heatd about allowed the British Crown to buy slaves like goods and they did it in an enormous number. So look a bit closer in your history !
If I remember correctly it was a German company who payed the English Crown for the right to sell slaves to Spanish owned plantations in the Caribbean. You blame England without mentioning either Germany or Spain. Very blinkered yet again. Do try harder!
You spoke about England in your post so I relay to the british crown in slaves trade.
I agree with you Cro about churches making amends for atrocities committed in the name of fiction
