That really brought a smile! I wonder how many millions my photo of the piles of fishermens nets on the waterfront would sell for. What the hell? I just went back and enlarged the photo. It's a pile of fishermens net's! Where exactly is the art?
I stopped using Galleries after they started charging me nearly 50%. Later I used an agent, who took far less. Since I have retired there is no longer a platform for my work. I do occasionally post pictures here.
If people are daft enough to pay silly prices for perceived artwork, then more fool them. I would be looking to turn it into something useful. Recycling and re using is a much better option.
Our house is a work of art, there's stuff all over the place...but as Meanqueen says, if people are stupid enough...emperor's new clothes and all that.
It is a terrifying reality that people are so utterly stupid ignorant and gullible to be taken in by art fraud. Just because a so called expert declares rubbish to be a work of art does not make it so. Anyone who has seen Renaissance art knows what great art is.
It’s like Shrigley is saying: “You lot would buy any old crap, wouldn’t you?” He was deliberately playing on the idea of "money for old rope". That's why he slapped a £1m price tag on the pile.
Oh, I thought painters never retired and paint their whole life.As I discoverd your blog some weeks ago, I never saw one of your paintings. Would be nice to discover. Bettina

We've had an unmade bed, and a Banana stuck to a wall, that both sold for a fortune. Sometimes I wonder why I spent 5 years at Art College.
Where do you show your work ? Is there a gallery where we can see your sculptures or paintings ?

Concerning the ropes, no comment.
In a sane world he would be fined for littering.
Hmmm... not sure if I'd have that one in my house, but some of P's mess would come close.

I have nothing against his work, but to charge such a silly price has its effect on all artists.
It could come in handy in the garden, and plenty left over to give to neighbours!

I can always find a use for old rope, but That pile would be even too much for me!
I do like a bit of clutter, but I think I have enough already.

There is ONE essential rule these days. If you make something BIG; it's ART. If you make the same thing SMALL; it's NOT.

You can't blame HIM, but you can certainly blame anyone foolish enough to buy (or have bought) it.
I'm sure a few will crop up in time.
Great pieces of art. Would look classy in the living room
Not in mine; I've already got a pile of dead Rats.
Who is the silly one, the artist who sells it for a million, or the buyer who pays a million for it?
Exactly!
