I occasionally buy from Amazon. Some things simply aren't available nearby, and it's very convenient.
I wanted some plain, wipe-able, place-mats, for our dining table here in France; so I looked online.
I found what I wanted for around 11 Euros, and was about to click on 'Buy Now' when I saw what you see below.
Are they bloody kidding??? They are VERY specific; delivery would not be before Friday 13th of March 2026. It WOULD be a Friday 13th wouldn't it. Are they comedians?
I have never seen that before. Usually things arrive within a few days; at the most a week. But to actually advertise that it could be dispatched within 6 to 7 months is frankly OUTRAGEOUS. These are just ordinary place mats for goodness sake.
Normally I wouldn't bother reading the 'small print'. My search for place mats continues!
How weird.
ReplyDeleteExactly!
DeleteIt could be a spelling mistake. Some months ago I received a letter from the hospital for an appointment in two years time (2027) after my GP had made an URGENT request for a specialist consultant to see me asap. You've got to laugh, Cro. I did. My GP didn't see the funny side of it.
ReplyDeleteOf more interest to me: What do you need place mats for? That's so quaint. So Seventies. My dining room table is largely wood with slate inserts; both easy to wipe down.
U
Now you mention it, I don't really know why I want them. I've always had them, so it must be 'tradition'.
DeleteI don't think it could be a spelling mistake as it's in 3 different places.
I had a bad experience with Amazon recently when I ordered a winter wool hat for £10:99. And when I checked my Bank statement a few days later they had actually charged me just over £100. Apparently I had clicked on the option ' Yes I would like Prime Delivery' thereby opening a Prime account. Took a few days to get a refund.
ReplyDeleteI never have anything to do with 'Prime'. Most things only take one or two more days to arrive. It seems like a con to me!
DeleteI've almost been caught with something similar. I also once got an email from them telling me of a 'failed delivery attempt at 3am'.
ReplyDeleteHow charming of them. I wonder if they meant 3 pm?
DeleteI closed my Amazon account several years ago after a couple of bad experiences with them. It can be frustrating sometimes when I can't find what I want elsewhere but I have learned to do without if necessary.
ReplyDeleteI've never had any problems with them. Everything I've bought has been OK, and generally, delivery has been prompt.
DeleteHubby orders something from them and after was told it would arrive by early December, it arrived the next day.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds perfect. The other way round, not so good.
DeletePlaice mats? Why not put your plaice on plates?
ReplyDeleteThere's no answer to that!
DeleteWhy OUTRAGEOUS? Strange - yes but it takes more than that to outrage me
ReplyDeleteI call 7 months delivery outrageous. Maybe I'm odd.
DeleteIt's a long time since I've ordered anything from Amazon, so can only sympathise with the "slight" delay!
ReplyDeleteDo you really need placemats now, or can you buy some in the UK to take back with you next summer?
I'm looking for plain ones, most I see in the UK are patterned or have hunting scenes on them. Maybe I don't need any anyway.
DeletePerhaps they hope people will pay and then forget - I looked at Ikea website - they have several and seems they have stores in France - flis x
ReplyDeleteWe have a new Ikea in Brighton. I shall send my own little Swede to investigate.
DeleteJust get your laminator out and laminate a few sheets of A4 plain paper...place mats in no time at all! You could even do some of your artistic work on the paper before laminating it.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't they be a bit thin? I suppose I could laminate some painted canvas.
DeleteThat's why you should always read the details. But it's weird. Especially for Amazon. I've never ordered from them but reading comments on the net they seem to deliver so fast, as you say.
ReplyDeleteI use cloth placemats, bold bright colours which don't show stains and some synthetic fabric that dries quickly and never needs ironing.
I had plain ones from IKEA but after 15 years they finally got too discoloured and tatty
We have some flexible ones but they seem to get very dirty. I want something I can just wipe clean. We're very messy eaters.
DeleteMost of the time, Amazon delivers here within a day or two, sometimes the same day, they have a depot three miles from us. But some outside vendors can be slow on shipping, still months is a bit long.
ReplyDeleteI all sounds very odd, rather like my weather forecast predicting temperatures of 54 C this Summer. Something went wrong.
DeleteCro, I think we started using Amazon during the pandemic. Now it's so easy (too easy actually) and the best part is so easy to return. And I agree that why buy Prime... they deliver in a few days or so... and generally we're not in any hurry. But if anything takes a few months, I'd definitely skip that.
ReplyDeleteI would like to stop using Amazon, but occasionally it's so convenient. Maybe I should re-consider my account.
DeleteThat's very odd. All Amazon delivers to me are within a day or two. When local stores lack product, Amazon seems to stock everything.
ReplyDeleteQuite right. Both useful and (usually) reliable.
