It was bound to happen.

I have no need for Ironing Boards, but I did need an Office Chair (or so I was told).

Lady M has been berating me for years about the chair I use for all my 'office' activities. She insisted that I needed better support for my back.

I have mentioned several times about the huge amount of Ironing Boards and Office Chairs that are thrown out here in Brighton. We see them all the time.

So, when Lady M and Susie saw this 'Free to Good Home' chair outside a neighbour's house, they captured it.

It is in perfect condition, it's comfortable, and supports my back as desired. AND, it was FREE.

A bloomin' bargain!

Is my back any better? Not yet!

  1. Wonderful replying and keeping things out of landfill. Give it a few weeks and if it doesn’t work keep an eye out for another one. A good chair that fits you can be a game changer. Try it with a small foot stool or a couple of large books on the floor to raise your feet, see if that helps.

    Bad backs are a pain.

  2. It looks good! Probably, like me, you spend a good amount of time sitting at your computer these days. It makes sense to have your back properly supported. It could really help you with your back pain... but is this chair the right one?

    1. It's far better than my old wooden chair, but it remains to be seen if it'll do anything for my back; I doubt it.

  3. I love the way people leave things out to be reused, we often see stuff on our walks.

    1. Yes, this came with a nice message saying that it was in good condition, and simply surplus to requirements!

  4. That's a real treasure! Wish we could find treasures like that here. What we find are knocked about pieces of furniture that's not even OK for firewood... And old washing machines

    1. This one was certainly heaven-sent. The more I use it, the more I like it.

  6. Cro, I don't wish to rub salt into the wound: But over anyone's lifespan there will be wear and tear. Take heart: You are not clapped out yet.

From observing others it appears that back pain is notoriously difficult to shift. Yet, even if your new found treasure doesn't make your back better - best case scenario it won't make it worse. And you'll sit comfortably.

Only other idea, but it costs money, are physio sessions with a professional. Even a small adjustment like alignment/good posture can make a difference. Head high, shoulders back, spine straight. Good luck.

    1. I've come to accept that I will have pain for life. I don't mind too much, and very occasionally take pain killers that do nothing. It's all part of growing old.

  7. What a find!
I have one exactly the same that I bought last year - cost me 114€, but that included assembly. It replaced the previous identical chair, which I'd had for a good 15 or more years. They came from a Swedish furniture shop called JSYK, our local answer to Ikea!

    1. I have a very nice one in France that belonged to my youngest son. I think it came from Ikea, and was expensive. This one isn't the same at all, but still very good.

  8. A good chair is well worth the price, especially when it is free.

  9. Lady M and Suzie know a great buy when they see one. The chair looks terrific, and you can't beat free.

  10. Great score. Might not fix your back but might stop it getting worse as fast
