I mentioned some while back that I'd had a long conversation with a lady at my supermarket, all about Anchovies; neither of us could find any, and we spent a while discussing as much.
Well I did eventually find some a week later, and they now feature in most of my lunchtime salads; as they should.
In fact we have now settled down to our standard lunchtime salads; they are a cross between a Greek and a French Summer salad. They contain all the usual suspects. What more could you want?
Living in an area that is heavily influenced by N African cuisine, we do occasionally add just one bit of exoticism; Salade Mechouia (in jar above).
Note, there is a lump of Feta in the above salad, under the anchovies. Very international here!
Our antique French plates are more fun than suitable, but at least they get used!

I virtually live on salad during the summer, I love it and it's so good for you with all that fibre etc. Your mechouia sounds nice too, I've never heard of it. Pickled cucumbers, yum!

I had some anchovies on toast this morning for my breakfast. Lovely.

YES for your Greek/french/Tunisian salad!!! I get very tired of endless traditional Greek salads. A few anchovies, spicy peppers and an aesthetically pleasing plate would lift our salads to a whole different level. Even a few capers, with their leaves make a difference.
I'm going to look for interesting plates now. We have cupboards full.

As often gets remarked upon, in a previous life I must have been a rabbit. I LOVE salads. I once crunched my way through a seemingly unfeasibly large glass bowl of vegetation. Mind you, as to portion size, that was in America; Florida to be more precise. And I had ordered it as my main.
I take it, since you are in France, you dress your salads. When I first arrived in England (this was in the Eighties) I was baffled by what the English understood to be "salad". Garnish, more like. Where is the dressing, I asked.

I have over 100 plates here. I used to buy them like crazy!!! I really must go through them all some time, and start to clear-out a few.
Yes, just a simple dressing of mustard, vinegar, olive oil, and s & p. I don't like fussy dressing. The Tomatoes are wonderful.

Mmm..your salad looks delicious! My favorite salad is a good Greek salad. The restaurant here that makes my favorite one had a fire and they're repairing and rebuilding their kitchen. I can't wait until they open back up! The Greek salads I make at home just aren't as good, somehow.
