THE ROLY POLYS - Tap Dance "Anything Goes"

Can you believe it. Once upon a time we were allowed to laugh at 'Mother-in-Law' jokes, and overweight female dancers of a 'certain age'.

These days there would be several hundred, banner-waving, shaven-headed, dungaree-wearing, woke protesters, outside the theatre all demanding compensation.

I think I prefer it how things used to be! Here are 'The Roly Polys'; Les Dawson's wonderful answer to The Tiller Girls.

I remember those, the good old days, when we were allowed to have fun and not feel guilty about it. Can't even move these days without somebody coming over with 'the vapours'!

Les Dawson was an amazing comic and pianist, along with Bob Monkhouse.

And if you didn't like something, or felt offended, you simply didn't watch.

He was a real 'comedian'; very funny.

There were, and they all loved what they were doing.

They were great dancers with a sense of fun.

Even though I am proudly woke, I can still applaud The Roly Polys and indeed Les Dawson's edgy brand of Northern humour. He was a comedy genius.

'Fun' is the right word; that's exactly what they were. Sadly that type of fun isn't allowed any more.

I'm pleased to hear that YP. I've never seen you as a killjoy.

They were great entertainers and we laughed along with them - not at them. These days where has all the sense of fun gone?

Nope not my cup of tea back then and not now. I couldn’t stand those 1970s entertainment shows with skits (with mega laugh track) interspersed with dancing.

Benny Hill, Dick Emery, Morecombe and Wise…no thanks

Exactly. Sadly the woke brigade have no sense of 'fun'.

You need to have a sense of fun to enjoy that type of humour. It's not obligatory.

I also remember them.Surely they wouldn't have done it if it had offended them ? XXXX

Of course not. They loved it.

I've never seen them. The clip you post is very funny.

They were very popular back in the 80's (?). They worked with the comedian Les Dawson.
