RIP's of 2023

I'll start with a non-human RIP, and that is the Sycamore Gap Tree that some idiot sawed down. Several people will appear in court this year, and if found guilty I hope they'll have the book thrown at them. Vandalism of the worst sort, pure and simple!

Amongst notable deaths in 2023 have been Lady M's old IOW school friend Jane Birkin, and England's favourite Footballer Bobby Charlton.

Artist Joe Tilson (who I once spent some time chatting with at the ICA), all-round genius Barry Humphries, and dog-lover Lily Savage (Paul O'Grady) also succumbed.

And finally, I would also like to remember each and every one of the 1,139 innocent Israelis who were so brutally tortured and slaughtered on October 7th by Palestinian Hamas terrorists.

May they all rest in peace.

    1. Blimey, how did that happen. I definitely read that she'd died. No doubt some wag having a joke. I have rectified.

    2. It seems that reports of her death were a huge scam. The reports are still there! How does one know what to believe these days???

    1. Thank you. Yes, peace around the world would be nice, but bellicosity is popular at the moment.

  3. Thank you Cro for having the courage to say the things here in blogland which is not always the place where things are said with courage and honesty. I wish you and your family a happy new year.

  7. Remembering everyone lost in 2023.
Barry Humphries lived where I worked. He was lovely and we used to have a cuppa together every morning before I started work.
Oh, and wishing You, Lady M and all of your lovely family many happy times in 2024. XXXX

  8. Yes Cro I agree with all you say but would add the huge death toll of over twenty thousand innocent - mostly woman, elderly folk and children who are Palestinian. W hen will it all end? Facing death at some time soon myself I find the hatred and barbarism of war all the more unbearable. I just hope 2024 sees a brighter future.

    1. Having read some of the accounts of that raid, I'm simply amazed that such barbarism exists within humans. Did they imagine that there would be no reprisal? I suspect it will be over quite soon.

    2. Face to face barbaric slaughter disgusts. Barbaric slaughter effected by a distant push of a button sanitises the same result. Slaughter of innocents. We have not evolved very far

    3. I agree, they've been sending those rockets almost daily for decades. This time maybe they'll stop.

    4. In addition to the Israeli victims, I mourn the 21,672 Gazans killed since Oct 7th - including 8000+ children - none of whom were members of Hamas.

  12. Wishing you all the best for 2024. With many elections in 2024, we can only hope that the world becomes a better place. When the balance of power shifts, opportunity shifts as well.

    1. We need a magic wand. If we could get rid of Putin and all Hamas members, things would look a lot brighter.

  14. I do wish all the haters would stop killing those who don't think the same way they do. It's so senseless. Happy New Year.
