The big double window in our bedroom was old, very heavy, and past its best. We think it was the last of its type in the street; everyone else had already changed theirs.
The men arrived at 9 am, and were finished by midday. We had already warned our neighbours that there would be some noise, but it wasn't too bad.
The previous window was metal, the new one UPVC. Looking at them you really wouldn't see that much difference.
In fact the difference should only be noticeable for us. The new ones are double glazed, draught-proof, and upkeep-free. At the moment we sleep with the window wide open, but in Winter we should be much warmer.
The installation was painless (other than for the wallet), and the men left everything as clean as they possibly could.
A good job lads! We now have no more windows or doors to replace; all done.

Indeed the window is very beautiful and also the view from it is so different from the view in France.
In the distance is the sea, but we only get a small view of it. Yes, the two locations couldn't be more different.

The old ones must have been nearly 60 years old and had served us well. The new ones will certainly be warmer.

Quite a view. I would be reticent to sleep with those windows wide open for fear of unwanted nighttime visitors, human or otherwise.
Billy lets us know at once if there are either people or animals about. We also have movement sensitive lights both front and back. We feel very safe.

You should be able to buy insect screens to put in your window opening for the summer months. Check Lidl in the spring - they sell kits.
No more draughts in the bedroom. We have screens in France where they are essential. Here we're not really bothered by insects.
Ah new windows - steadily the old sash windows are gone forever. I remember my mother pushing up the bottom one squeezing out, sitting on the bedroom window cill and cleaning the outside glass.
Sash windows look very nice, but they're not very practical; especially for cleaning.
We are on the third floor and have windows we can't clean the outside of.

Your new glass double door looks terrific. Double glaze is a nice improvement on efficiency as well.
It should make quite a difference. We're never cold in this house, but we'll probably save on heating.

Well, I'm glad the installation was painless as opposed to paneless which would have defeated the purpose, wouldn't it? We replaced all our windows about 3 or 4 years ago. It made quite a difference in our old house.

We need to replace two windows and were told that there are no more double glazed ones. You have to get triple glazed windows now. Of course this fits in with the hystery about heat pumps, where you have to seal your house like a tupperware box and then put in a ventilation system, which of course uses a lot of electricity. It´s really crazy.

It's now about 5.30 am and I've just been standing beside it, with no cold coming through at all. It works!
Maybe we'll have the front door done as well one day.
The combination of good insulation and double glazing makes a huge difference. At our converted barn (in France) we hardly needed heating at all.
Things can be taken too far, we all need a bit of imperfection in our lives.
