It's never ending.

It's that time of year again. All our lawns turn beige, and stop growing.

I don't mind the 'stop growing' part, but beige crunchy grass is not my Tasse de Thé..

We are promised rain, and maybe even storms, for this week so perhaps some green will return.

Of course just because the grass doesn't grow, it doesn't mean that everything else stops. The grass still has to be mowed, as annoying foot-tall spindly yellow flowering weeds soon spring up everywhere, making the lawns look a total mess.

I can't really complain. It takes me just 40 minutes to mow with Rory (my ride-on mower), and another 20 minutes with the ordinary mower. One hour a week to mow the whole caboodle ain't so bad.

I can hear the sound of distant thunder as I write. Rain may be on its way!

(5 mins later) And it was! And boy did it rain!

It's better when the sun is shining.

Yup, it rained!

We had a driveway then we had an instant river.

I was stunned. I thought it would just rumble a bit, then die out. How wrong I was.

I hope the driveway is still there. I haven't checked mine yet.

Looks beautiful in the rain. A pleasant interlude....or the rain would be for me anyway

I've just had a look at the forecast, and we could be having rain for a week! Although I never believe them.

Wow, great that you had rain just as you were blogging about the rumbles. Your garden is pretty.

We jumped ship and had artificial grass in our small garden, that's still green!

Now that we don't farm it is heaven not to have to worry about weather.

I like thunder, if I'm not fleeing from it.

I was mid-blog when it started. It became quite impressive.

That's CHEATING.

Cro Magnon said...

It was, and didn't last too long. Perfect.

I don't like strong wind, but the rest doesn't worry me too much.

Cro Magnon said...

It should rain at night. Mother nature didn't get it quite right.

Cro Magnon said...

Me too Gwil. I always sit out to watch the lightning. The best free show nature has to offer.

The winter solstice has just passed and we have had very little rain (though it has been cold and frosty). I might have to water the veggies! I love a good thunder and lightening storm at any time of the year. They really are awesome.

Your veggie garden will be happy too! Rain water is magical.

We're supposed to have another one this afternoon.... we'll see.

Everything was looking very 'pert' this morning. It should do well over the next week or so.

My lawn is becoming crunchy brown after lots of feet trampled on it on Sunday. Now it's raining :o)

So much rain here in Ontario, there is no chance of brown lawn. (Flooding has occurred in some places). Your vegetable garden will be happy for the rain. -Jenn

It always comes back quite quickly. A few days and it's all green again.

I've just come from Haddock's and it's looking very 'lush'. My Tomatoes seemed to have doubled in size!

Send some rain here ASAP please - all water butts empty and fruit trees looking sad.

I have two quite young Cherry trees that were really drooping; yesterday's rain has done the job. I'll do a Rain Dance for you.

Two good rains (preferably at night) will turn that brown grass green. We have had too much rain here, but on the sunny days in between, everything looks lush and beautiful.

We just gave our riding lawnmower away. Because of health issues, my Retired Man had to give it up. Now a young man does what used to take 2.5 hours in 30 minutes. It is not perfect, but it is good enough.

I've been trying to buy an old ride-on mower to convert into a car for my grandsons, but I can't find one anywhere (at the right price).

Cro, before I forget, l want to let you know that for the past couple of evenings, I've prepared and enjoyed my version of your Veg Fry Up. What a great idea...thank you again. I expect to be trying out more variations as the summer produce continues to dazzle.

Now, I was painting yesterday, and so missed seeing your prior post. I'm glad that you are painting again too. I really find such pleasure in getting lost in the process...it's a fine place for my mind to be. Way back when I did some exhibiting and selling, and also appreciated that sort of recognition, but it was the actually creating that interested me. (My favorite recognition remains a day when I was still in college and met Georgia O'Keeffe, who praised what I was then working on.)

Last week, here in NYC we had quite a few generous rains which have so far kept Central Park very lushly green. Our "drying out" season will begin in a few weeks when some of those greens get downright crispy.

Best wishes.

How marvelous to have met Ms O'Keeffe. I have her biography somewhere, I must read it.

It's stormy again here; my poor dog hates it. I expect he'll sleep on my bed tonight; I don't mind as it comforts him.

We have a steady downpour of rain here at the moment thank goodness. The playing fields of the sixth form college up the road were all going brown like yours.

I remember doing some archery on the BAHSVIC (?) grounds.

We had a storm again last night. Poor Bok was petrified; he was shaking for about two hours. At least the grass benefited.

Cro Magnon said...

We're now promised 'light rain' for the next four days. My vegs will be happy.
