Cro's style awards: No 4. Punk.

I rather liked Punk. An explosion in a tramp's wardrobe suddenly became a fashion statement.

My favourite piece of Punk clothing was Vivienne Westwood or Malcolm McLaren's wonderful 'Bum Flap'. Usually in tartan, it served absolutely no purpose; it just hung at the rear doing nothing. Pure genius.

  1. I rather liked punk too. (Still do!) The colour, the silliness, the sheer exuberance. You can't help but smile.

  2. Wonder what the ones in the photo are doing now? Do they cringe when they think about how they used to look?

    1. I was thinking the same thing. Accountants, estate agents, and social workers probably.

    2. Accountants estate agents and social workers during the week and punks at weekends many were.

  3. It was what fashion needed at the time - a bit of a shake up.

  4. Is there a second image ? It doesn't show on my phone.

    1. Yes there's a picture of a 'bum flap'.... Maybe you need a laptop; the shock might be too much for your phone.

  5. I seem to be missing an image too, and I am on a " proper computer"! (Just got a question mark in a little blue square)

    1. Your upload of the bum flap and my post must have crossed. I see it now! Not tartan but it'll do. Love the boots.

  7. I saw the bum flap! This was more my style back in the day (imagine skulls in place of the guns):

    1. I did praise Japan's Harajuku girls in my piece on 'The world's snappiest dressers'. If you type that into my search strip (top left), you'll see.

      I liked the guns too.

  8. My just teen daughter got a little punk in the mid-eighties and I remember well her crazy hair. I liked her individualism, but some of her friends gave me pause. However, I got to know them and they were great kids who made me laugh. She grew up, moved to California and lives in a hippy community. She was always too cool to live in the uptight east and has a wonderful time being amongst free thinkers. She is also a successful senior sales manager at a famous resort. Punk, hippy, great daughter, she has done well.

    1. Good for her. A good example of 'never judge people by their clothes'.

  9. I loved punk - it was after my time sadly but as always I envy folk who can dress in a 'way out' manner. I never dared.

  10. Punk is alive and well and living in our house. ;)
