Summer Lunch.

Simple lunch, courtesy of Richard, Haddock's, and Oooh my aching back.

OK, this may not be up to the standard of Maxim's in Gay Paree, but I just love eating meals that consist entirely of my own home produced goodies.
.
Pukka Summer lunches have now arrived. This one was red cabbage with mayo, tomatoes, hard-boiled eggs, and some lightly curried picked cauli.

And it's all FREE (other than having a few less vertebrae than I was born with) .

  1. Oh yum to the hard-boiled eggs. I don't eggs here in East Africa (after contracting typhoid in 2011, I'm sure it was from eggs! Just my theory) But when we arrive in South Africa next week, I buy a carton of large brown eggs and boil two up immediately. My husband will find steak and cook that for his dinner - me - I eat eggs! Thanks for sharing this colorful lunch!

    1. I have friends in Jo'burg. One year they arrived in France with some STEAK. It had been vacuum-packed that morning by his butcher in SA. It was without question the very best steak I have ever eaten (and still perfectly fresh!). Another time he brought me a big bag of biltong, but lost it somewhere.

    2. Can you really take meat from one country to another. Wouldn't customs stop you. Our immigration and quarantine rules are so strict we cant bring in wooden objects that have not been fumigated and stamped so that makes a lot of touristy things off the list. I cant go home (from VIC to NSW) with fruit as I am crossing quarantine borders. There are disposal bins that you have to pull up at and dump all your apples etc. One year an inspector took a waxed box off us because it had a picture of a pineapple on it. My mum had been using that box for years.

      Interesting.

  3. Are the boys happy with that?? I imagine they would be although a lot of the younger ones here would prefer a burger.

    1. They tend to have Knacki sausages, or Ham, as well, then leave all the salads.

  4. Morning Cro - I know where you're coming from - when we used to keep our own livestock as well as growing veg we used to say 'the only thing we haven't grown is the gravy'. Your summer lunch looks perfect.

  6. It is a good feeling to eat a meal that consisted of food you have grown yourself. I had a most delicious dinner the other night from veggies I had picked a few hours before.
