This Manchester (Stockport) based band were a highly-talented group of musicians from the 1970's.
I must admit that I really don't know a huge amount about them, but this particular song is probably their best. A beautifully crafted song (but with an unnecessarily slow instrumental break in the middle) it has a timeless quality, and an eerie beauty.
Eric Stewart (the singer) wrote the song after his wife complained that he didn't tell her that he loved her any more.
Just love it !
ReplyDeleteA beautiful song, but the instrumental break still annoys me.
DeleteThis song was played here a lot on the radio in the days when we listened to the radio a lot.
ReplyDeleteFrom the 1970's I think. The 70's produced a lot of very good music.
DeleteAlovely song to start the day.
ReplyDeleteGlad to be of service!
DeleteIt was one of my favourites when I was young and still believed in romance.
ReplyDeleteYou mean you don't any more??? I do.
DeleteIn Britain 10cc had three number one singles. This was one of them along with "Rubber Bullets" and "Dreadlock Holiday". They certainly created a distinctive sound.
ReplyDeleteI remember 'Dreadlock Holiday'. I don't think they achieved their true potential; that requires a really talented song writer. They were basically just excellent musicians.
DeleteOne of my favourties too
ReplyDeleteA goodie.
DeleteDefinitely their best and I have always loved it. It takes me right back to my teens. I was kissing a short term boyfriend goodbye as he had decided to go back to his ex and this was playing on the radio. At the "Big boys don't cry" line he added "And nor do little girls". Something I have never forgotten.
ReplyDeleteMemories indeed. I hope they are good ones!
DeleteThis was popular in the US too. It is a little mellow for my taste. Still, good but....
ReplyDeleteNice tune, and nicely performed. It's almost a 'classic'.
Delete10cc was one of my favourite groups, way back when! Thanks for the reminder. 😊
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard it for yonks either. The oldies are often the best.
