Yes I know you've seen it before, but just for those who don't know; when my friend Jock died, I vowed to celebrate his birthday each year to keep his memory alive.
ReplyDeleteA good friend is like a family member.
ReplyDeleteA nice Valentine's day to you and Lady M.
Greetings Maria x
Thank you Maria, and of course I wish you a very happy day too. x
DeleteHappy Valentine's Day to you both.
ReplyDeleteThat is what friends are for .. to remember with love. Here we would light a candle as well
He was a terrible rogue, so I won't go as far as a candle.
DeleteThis made me think of Robert Hughes too. Larger than life characters. You are fortunate to have known Veitch. I could do with a Veitch around here. I will raise a glass to him later. I have a brother with a birthday today. I won't be raising a glass to him, that would be a step too far. Happy St Vals Day x
ReplyDeleteDear Jock was a great character; we spent some wonderful times together, mostly involving plenty of good food and wine. Have a good day. x
DeleteVery happy day to you and lady M.
ReplyDeleteThank you Yael. It has started off well, I'm sure that'll be how it continues. X
DeleteI remember this from one year ago, I think. Lady Magnon looks terrific in a sixties kind of way. Oh, perhaps I should say for full flattery, seventies.
ReplyDeleteYes, I put it up every year in his memory. 'Lest we forget'.
DeleteLady M looks lovely in that photo. I met Jock at one of Caroline's soirees, he was quite a character.
ReplyDeleteOnce met, never forgotten.
DeleteThat's so often the case with Kiwis. And you don't get much more Kiwi than being born in Wanganui.
DeleteThere are those people who touch our lives in a joyful way and death does not remove them from our heart. Happy Valentines Day, Cro, to you and your lovely Lady M.
ReplyDeleteThank you. A bit drizzly here today, but not enough to dampen our day.
DeleteDamp day here too Cro but judging from that photograph you will have had plenty of practice at enjoyment on Val's day.
ReplyDeletePractice makes perfect Weave; we're getting there!
DeleteGood friends are worth celebrating.
ReplyDeleteLovely drawing, spare of line but shows him just so
I did several drawings of him, the one above was the 'neatest'.
DeleteI did google and he must have been a character and great friend. You remember him well. The best to you and Lady M.
ReplyDeleteHe was great company, and is still missed.
DeleteJock reminds me of Jimmy, a Glaswegian. One day an Aberdonian phoned him. Jimmy began shouting down the mouthpiece, obscenities like 'b..... Aberdonian' and going redder and redder. When he looked like he was going to have a heart attack he said 'I can't understand a f...... word'. I took the phone and discovered the other party couldn't understand Jimmy's accent either. I had to act as interpreter and peacemaker for two angry Scots. Other times Jimmy could charm the birds off the trees. One of life's true characters. Never said no to a wee drop ;-)
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of Rees-Mogg electioneering in Fife. Neither side could understand a word of the other.
DeleteMy little brother's birthday is Valentine's day, and they were going to call him Val until I intervened. I was 9 years old and totally in love with Paul McCartney, so the baby was called Paul. My 'lil bro (towers above me) thanks me now.
