It's arrived.
Lady Magnon returned from Blighty with my new laptop; I had imagined having to wait until summer for my son Kimbo to bring it over by car, but Lady M managed to find a vacant corner in her suitcase.
It's an Acer E1-572P. It has a touch screen, is much faster, and rides on Carlos Fandango wheels. It's taken me a couple of head-scratching hours to set up, and I'll still probably be looking under its bonnet for a few days yet.
My previous Acer Travel Mate 5720 had become totally clogged. Too many words, too much chatter, and far to many snaps.
So, why did I spend my money in England, rather than here in France? Simple; because French laptops don't use the QWERTY keyboard, and my two-finger typing cannot be re-educated to adapt to their ridiculous alternative layout
Previously, all my early morning computer work took from 5.30am to about 7.30am (breakfast time); now I am done by about 6.30am.
You see before you (well, behind your screen somewhere) a very happy Cro.
" a very happy Cro"......how bizarre!
ReplyDeleteNot bizarre at all. I now click on something, and it works instantly. If you'd witnessed my previous laptop, you'd share my delight!
DeleteI'll take your word for that my good man.
ReplyDeleteI invested in a MacBook Pro a couple of years ago and I'm so pleased that I did …….. the computer that I had before would need to be restarted all the time, there were viruses, it was really slow and all sorts that went wrong. It has certainly taken the stress out of computing. Money well spent !!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your new toy Cro. XXXX
I'm with you on that one, Jack@. Macs are so easy to use and clean themselves regularly - not that I want to detract from Cro's joy.
DeleteOh, and I see from your photo that it also comes with a back-up pack - very wise!
DeleteKimbo insisted. Haven't opened the pack yet!
DeleteI see you still use a mouse rather than the infuriating touch pad. I hate when I am typing and my hand brushes the pad causing something unexpected and usually catastrophic to happen.
ReplyDeleteI'm so used to a mouse that I don't even bother with the 'touch screen'. As for the pad thingy; no thanks.
DeleteMy eyesight is getting worse
ReplyDeleteI would like a laptop the size of a dining room table
Excellent. I love new tech toys!
ReplyDeleteOddly enough we were talking about the Minitel yesterday. The article about it said it had the azerty keyboard. My husband laughed and said he hated the keyboards at CERN for just that reason.
ReplyDeleteTouch screen computers are becoming more common here. They have them at the library, but the tables that they are on are quite high because they were bought for having a keyboard set beneath the screen at a reasonable height.
My son is at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, he says it is quite comical to see people approach the computer screens and hunt for the keyboard, they don't seem to like the touch screens.
'Minitel' indeed. That's a real blast from the past.
DeleteI love new toys. Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your new toy.
ReplyDeleteNow matter how old we get, we love new toys - especially when they make our lives easier.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful day here, and I've just given the lawns their first mowing of 2014. Both mowers (ride-on and ordinary) started 'first go'. Praise be to the gods of lawn mowers.
ReplyDeleteIt is handsome. I see you also prefer a real mouse. When I have to use a grandchild laptop, they produce the mouse for me.
ReplyDeleteI never knew that aout French keyboards - you learn something new every day in blogland. Enjoy your new toy.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the missing 'b'
ReplyDeleteWhat's a 'b' between friends!
DeleteCongrats on your new machine. Of course the French don't use qwerty, they have to be different.
ReplyDeleteGood to know that you got a new laptop that is working perfectly. You were even able to shorten your time of work! I hope you also consider having an online back-up drive for much better access to your files anywhere you are.
