Toast and.....

I have mentioned many times that breakfast for me is always tricky. I often know what I shall be having the night before, but often I come downstairs at 5 am, not knowing at all what I wish to eat. Part of the problem is that I eat my breakfast alone!

Luckily, recently, Kimbo had bought me some Duck Eggs, so there was no need to scratch my head for the following morning. Delicious.

If I'm unsure about my desires, I just open the fridge door, and have a good look around. Recently I noticed a jar of Anchovies just waiting to be devoured. Not everyone's Cup of Tea.

And this very morning I remembered a pot of Houmous that I'd just bought. Houmous is a real favourite on toast. I split life into two eras; there is pre-Houmous, and post-Houmous. How did we survive in the pre-Houmous days? I'm not sure, but I think it first arrived in the UK in the late 60's.

I usually make my own, but I was being lazy. Delicious.

On Friday mornings there is no head-scratching. Kimbo always joins me for an early breakfast, and we treat ourselves to a FULL-ENGLISH. German Sausage, Scottish Haggis, Dutch Bacon, and an English Egg. Perfect.

Each of the options you chose looks delicious to me. I think the secret is in the toast. With good toast, you can't go wrong.

Yes, the toast is very important. It must be tasty, and not over-toasted.

That reminds me that I must make some hummus.

I usually make my own, but not this time.

Many thanks for this. I was wondering what to have for lunch and now it's sorted, it must be twenty years since I ate hummus
Something I'd simply forgotten about

I can still remember the very first time I tasted it. I was amazed. I can also remember the first time I tasted Cumin Powder. I was even more amazed!

Je suis vraiment désolée. Je ne savais pas que votre femme était décédée. Prendre son petit déjeuner seul est alors bien triste. Bon courage.Tout ce que vous mangez me plait , mais pas pour un petit déjeuner.

Lady Magnon is alive and well, but simply sleeps a bit more than I do. She has her breakfast at about 8 am. She tends to have a Croissant with her own home-made Apricot Jam.

Oh excusez moi . J'ai mal compris votre solitude au petit déjeuner. Son petit déjeuner est aussi le mien. Petit pain ou croissant , confiture et miel. Bonne journée et pardon pour cette méprise je suis confuse.

I believe humous arrived in British shops much later than the 1960s. Much, much later. I live without it.

Those anchovies...... do you prepare them in some way or just eat them as they were in the jar? They must be a bit strong and salty.
Don't know about houmous either. Not for breakfast. It's still an exotic here.
Ducks eggs, bacon, marmalade. But those are your Friday special

I can remember eating it when I was living in London between 65 and 69, but it was a rarity, and we didn't know what it was made from. Taramalata (sp?) appeared roughly at the same time.

I just surprised myself by reading the French, and understanding it all!! Hooray for O level French over 60 yrs ago.
My everyday breakfast is porridge cooked with sultanas and milk( in microwave) with blueberries, strawberries, grapes and ,blackberries all chopped up a bit and mixed with a little pot of " Actimel" or similar.

As they are in the jar, very salty and very strong. I really like Houmous on toast for breakfast, it seems right for an early morning meal.,

I have never liked Porridge, but I do like Oats raw in Muesli. In fact I should eat Muesli more often.

I like a spoonful of honey on my toast. It has to be the local set honey, though, not the runny stuff and the toast must be piping hot.
