We are still in Brighton. My mobility problem became far worse and I literally couldn't walk. After a couple of sleepless nights, I was in a lot of pain and moving around was almost impossible. It was obvious that driving down through France was out of the question.
The car was packed, the tickets and hotel all booked, Billy's papers were all in order, and we were really looking forward to our trip. Then on the morning of our departure, I was struck down. Sod's Law.
Doctors were consulted, and serious pain killers requested.
Strangely, the doc' thought it was my Sciatica rather than an arthritic Hip, and some high strength Codeine tabs were prescribed. They didn't do much good.
For the moment I am literally shuffling about, six inches at a time, and in so much pain that I can't sleep. I have an ambulance coming to collect me for a hospital appointment, so I may get some even stronger pain killers, then we can hopefully head south before the weekend. I shall NOT be driving.

I'm so sorry to read this. I hope everything works out and you feel better.
Sorry to hear that. I thought I was about to read that you were enjoying your pool. Hope the hospital can work out what is causing the problem.
What can I say? Get well soon.
Sorry to hear this, Cro. I hope you're feeling more comfortable soon. x
So sorry Cro. Please be wary on really strong painkillers though. They mask movements which might be making the pain worse, but they can also make you feel spaced out. Not what you need for travelling that distance.
I am so sorry, I hope the pain can be better controlled. Regards Sue H
What is the medical service like in France? Sounds as if you might be better off staying here for now . Sorry to hear you are in pain.
Oh, sh** sh** sh** shugar. How disappointing. It may be that your flying might come sooner than you planned. See how the appointment goes. Hire a driver. I hope your holiday goes ahead, whatever it takes.
Oh Cro, I am so sorry to hear this. Hope you can still go at the weekend. Take care.
I am so sorry to hear this Cro. I hope the doctors appointment helps and you get some relief from the pain and some way forward to walking and getting over to France soon. Rachel xx
Damn. I too was imagining you in France gathering mushrooms and swimming in the pool.
I sincerely hope the hospital people can give you a solution, and strong pain killers.
Crossing my fingers and spitting on you. Hope you can travel soon
I hope you are feeling up to the journey soon and back to your favourite place.
The crisis might move things toward a resolution faster and more efficiently (is new hip an option? and better mobility so as to see off sciatica perhaps). or not - really sorry to read it put the cobblers on your anticipated joy.
Oh Bother! I am sorry to hear your disappointing news. Nothing really helps with the pain, but ice packs give a bit of relief.
My heart goes out to you, kid! I'm thinking you've had a few bumps in the road in your travels and will navigate through this one also, I'm sorry for your lovely wife too. Be a sweet patient now.
Oh my, take care and hurry off to someplace warm and sunny soon.
Cro your silence lead us to believe that you had arrived in France. Hoping that the Hospital will help you recover. What terrible timing.
How awful. I'm so sorry! I hope you get all the help you need and start to feel better soon. xx
I am sorry too for the pain and disappointment. I hope you can get to your French house soon, a much better cure than tablets.
I am sorry to hear that. I knew you had mobility issues but had no idea they were that bad. Have you thought about a hip replacement. A friend recently had one and went from a mobility scooter to walking without pain. Now she needs to have the other one done before it gets too bad.
Sciatica always hits when you last expect it. I pulled my nerve when driving through Banff and it hurt for over a week.
If you need an ambulance to take you to an appointment that sounds like you won't be comfortable on a long drive.
It's 1:11 AM here in the States. I'm praying to the One who neither slumbers nor sleeps for our soldiers back in battle over Iran. And I'm praying for you, friend, as you fight your own personal battle.
Sorry to read about your mobility problems and above all, pain... I have multiple corns and two months between podalogue visits is 3 to 4 weeks too long so am plodding everywhere in pain.... next appointment is Wednesday.... the weekend can't pass fast enough!!!
Hoping for better things for you Cro.... you need the French air and food and sun..... and cherries!
I am very sorry to hear about your pain and your mobility difficulties. Hopefully, it is a temporary hitch and you will still make it down to Chateau Magnon.
Speaking from bitter experience, those dratted pain killers can facilitate a nasty fall. Believe me, a sleepless night is far easier to remedy than a tumble at 2 a.m. when shuffling to the loo...
It's a long shot, but my husband has been greatly helped by Shiatsu massage. It's not relaxing, you feel like you are being beaten, but it gets the blood flowing. Heas well could not walk due to sciatica and with regular appointments, he has no more pain. Best
Sending you good vibes and prayers, Cro... that you will feel better and get some relief soon. Take care.
I hope your get some answers and relief. Take care. Bun
I know how much this trip means to you. Hope you will be pain free soon and hope someone can drive you. Thinking of you ,
I am so incredibly sorry to hear you were struck down by this right on the morning of your departure—talk about the absolute worst timing for Sod's Law to kick in! It is completely heartbreaking when you have everything packed, Billy's papers sorted, and the whole French road trip ready to go, only to be left shuffling around in that kind of agonizing pain. Sciatica can be absolutely brutal and notoriously stubborn, so I am really glad to hear that an ambulance is getting you to a hospital appointment where they can hopefully find a combination of meds that actually brings you some real relief. Sending you so much strength, and I am crossing everything that they get this managed quickly so you can comfortably passenger your way south before the weekend is over!
