This is not only a very nice song from those Norwegian A-Ha boys (regardless of the incomprehensible lyrics), but Steve Barron's video was also one of the best of the era.
Sadly, I hear that the singer, Morten Harket, has Parkinson's.
In his day, posters of Harket were on every teenage girl's bedroom wall, and his obvious good looks made him into a universal heartthrob.
Enjoy both the song and the video! I send him my best wishes.
Sadly, too many people diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease these days.
ReplyDeleteIt does seem so. Perhaps it was given a different name before.
DeleteMy grandad had Parkinson's Disease and died aged 60. I have often wondered (and feared) that it could be hereditary.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea, but as Susan mentioned above; there's a lot of it about.
DeleteMy brother-in-law died of Parkinson's a couple of years ago. He was in his mid 80s.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear that, it does seem to be a particularly nasty disease, with no real cure.
DeleteMy darling wife has Parky's and due to an error in medication has developed Parkinson's Psychosis... so she is now on a cocktail of pills morning and evening! I have just given her her first intake. We have an appointment with the Neurologist in just over a week!! But there is a lot of catching up to do... she hasn't been seen for two years.... the normal "adjustment" gap is six months because it is a progressive disease.
ReplyDeleteLots of famous people have been very open about their diagnosis.... Ozzy Osbourne has Parky's, as does Billy Connolly and people are getting it at a younger age, too....
This is a very recent Auntie Beeb report on what it is like to live with Parkinson's:
https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cj3xxen5v0vo
Well worth a read.....
The "surge" in cases is believed to be down to two things.... better diagnosis and understanding of Parky's and use of glyphosate!!
Parkinson's Psychosis is down to the way that individuals respond to the medicines that are available and the slightest error in dosage can trigger it.... and add to that, every Parkinson's patient experiences different symptoms... of the three people in the BBC article [above], Pauline has symptoms from all three descriptions!!
DeleteThe worst is the stabbing back pains, which Pauline describes to me is like someone pushing a knife slowly into her lower back and then waggling it every which way but loose for half an hour!!
I'm now rather wishing that I hadn't read the BBC article, as I have both very bad back pain, and an ongoing problem with balance. Please send my very best regards to Pauline; it must be horrible for her.
DeleteThat music video was indeed memorable and ground-breaking. Interestingly, Morten Harket lists "drawing" as one of his main hobbies. I wonder if it was his drawing that featured in the video?
ReplyDeleteHe would have been a really excellent draughtsman if they were his. Fabulous drawings.
