Forbidden fruit.

I'm sure we've all had Liqueur Chocolates in our times, but I'd never before come across these.

Young Wills recently gave these to Lady Magnon, and they are quite superb.

Beautifully presented, they are made from really good quality dark Chocolate, with a genuinely delicious 'Williams' Pear Liqueur filling; not at all like those horrid things, with crystallised sugar inside, that were handed out in the 50's and 60's.

Such things tend only to appear at Christmas, so I shall hunt around and (if I find them) buy a good supply. It would be worth it; one of these a day would be perfect.

  2. I hear that you are supposed to have five a day.

  3. They look like a decent size, not your average chocolate box offering?

    3. I think they're 'pickled'. They're called Umeboshi; delicious!

  7. Looks nearly as good as a mouthful of Cadburys flake washed round with a swig of Newcastle Brown.

  8. We were so disappointed by our Christmas chocolate liqueurs this year. There wasn't enough liquid in them to even crystallise. Yours look wonderful.

  9. Looks wonderful. We got some chocolate liquor ones recently from a fine chocolate emporium and they were marvelous. Surprises are wonderful.

    1. When they're good, they're very very good. When they're not, they're ghastly.

  10. Like you I have a beard. I've never managed to eat liqueurs without getting a sticky beard. Good luck.

    1. These are bottle shaped; you nip off the top and have a swig, then consume the rest later. No sticky beard, no dribbles down your shirt, and no wastage of Pear liqueur.

    2. All our Chocs are now finished. As well as the above we had a box of obligatory Chocolate truffles, and a huge selection box of Lindt dark Chocks. Both bought by me, and envied.

  12. It looks superb - unlike many liqueur chocs which often have plenty of choc but not much in the way of liqueur.

    1. As well as unpleasant sugar crystals inside (which I believe are a sign of poor quality Chocs).

  13. I have a favorite place in Fredericksburg, Texas that makes and sells liquor filled dark chocolates that are delicious. I never buy any from other places. They are expensive, but you can choose the liquor you want in them - everything from wine to Irish whiskey, etc. I think the name of the shop is Quintessential Chocolates. It's a "go to" whenever we are in the area. Your chocolates sound wonderful too.

    1. One of my flats in London was above a 'bespoke' Chocolate maker shop. I used to buy there once a month as a special treat!

    1. I have a litre bottle of Pear Eau de Vie which stays untouched. I have tasted it, and it's wonderful; but it's about 75% proof, and not my bag!
