I noticed this morning on my facebook page that on this day last year I had posted a photo of emerging daffs in the churchyard.
So, when passing by I had a look to see if anything similar was there this year, and there they were; just popping their heads above ground level.
It doesn't feel very spring-like, but the daffs obviously have other ideas.
Daffs here have probably rotted due to the rain and more rain
ReplyDeleteIt's been pouring here too, but our daffs must be resistant.
DeleteWhenever I see bulbs emerging in December I always say '"They are early this year '" but you just proved that they do it at this time of year, every year !!! XXXX
ReplyDeleteYou're right, they're much more intelligent than we judge them by. Hello Daffs.
DeleteDaffs are hardy and even snow tolerant. I've seen them in December, in Hyde Park with a light snow cover. That is never seen in Massachusetts.
ReplyDeleteNot seen in S France either. These ones must be 'blessed'.
DeleteOh those naughty daffodils! Spring is such a long time away.
ReplyDeleteNot in the churchyard it isn't.
DeleteReminds me of the time I planted a dozen assorted Daffs in the front yard here. Saw a few shoots eventually, then nothing. They disappeared completely, even the bulbs couldn't be found when I dug down a bit. Someone stole the lot. I never planted any more.
ReplyDeleteI hope we see the blooms when yours flower.
Mice? They are caviar to rodents.
DeleteDaffodils are poisonous to rodents - so not that.
DeleteAnd by the way banana skins do not decompose in a couple of days. depending on the climate can take up to two years.
I must see if ours are coming up next time I venture down the garden!
ReplyDeleteWon't be long till the shortest day! And the coldest days. I'm sure those hardy daffs will survive but it's a long way till Spring. Mother Nature is very confused this autumn
